One Space... Or Two?

Fair enough, wiki is ok, the debate isn't really that serious tbh.

But you see my point now I hope.

Neither way is really wrong, it's simply preference.

I used to do single spaces until I met my boss. May be I shall CC him that article for kicks lol

Actually, the whole office does it. Although there is a "guideline" on the intranet on how a letter should be done. From fonts, size, spacing, indentations, the lot.

Your boss sounds like a bit of a control freak......He probably just wants everything to look a specific way is all.

Send him the article anonymously.....

He is a lawyer, a damn good one at that so getting things right is paramount to him. His penmanship is excellent and the way he write letters has been the same for the last 20 years so there is no reason for him to change now and I don't think this article will.

I will show it to him though, he can take a joke :p

Why on Earth has this thread managed six pages?

You're reading the forum in n00b mode :)

It's lasted so long because of stulids breathtaking arrogance. Followed by him totally embarrassing himself on a public forum, and losing all credibility on here. If he ever had any to begin with.

Way back in the early 90's I was taught to use two after a full stop and one after a comma. If it has changed in the last 20 years then whoopee! I'll stick to what I know.

I assume stulid is just messing around in here? Looking at his past posts there's tonnes full of errors.

I was taught to use two but now use one, because I am able to adjust my pointless habits to what is de rigueur for the period of time.

The only other thing that struck me from this thread, was how amusing it was reading stulid pretend that he is or ever will be, in the position whereby he is employing someone, let alone able to be sufficiently picky that he can reject someone because of the old-fashioned use of spaces.

Now that's one source I could live with, sorry, as I tend to ignore wiki references as everyman and his dog can edit it.

And the article that it links to...

Little snip...

What galls me about two-spacers isn't just their numbers. It's their certainty that they're right.

:D

So, kids, if your teachers force you to use two spaces, send them a link to this article. Use this as your subject line: "If you type two spaces after a period, you're doing it wrong."

Nice one Castiel, I used to work as a journalist at a time when the type was set by hand and the comic had a definite house style (still does, they all do).

That house style modified when the change from typewriters to keyboards took place. In essence, the convention is neither wrong nor right but simply a question of presentation, and something the troll neglected to take into account  :D

Yes I would.

Need a certain level of eduction to work where I do, for you I hear Mcdonald's are hiring.

Stay still, I can't keep moving the mattress around to catch you when you fall off your horse.

I'd be interested to know where you work considering I bet most people that went to University don't know the format you wish spaces to be included in a letter. It's not something that they give you in the welcome pack. "Welcome to this Red Brick University. You now qualify for the knowledge that you should include two spaces after a full stop when typing a letter!"

Don't really see it happening to be honest.
