As topic really, after a new PSU around the 400W mark for my storage box. I have my old 600W OCZ "Stealth" in it atm, but its far from stealth ;)

Silence & Efficiency is key, I was after one of the old 400W Corsair but they are discontinued.

Any recommendations? (Not passive due to cost).

Thanks,

i'd go with stulid's suggestion of the cx 430 out of the selection ocuk have or you could look at something like the antec basiq power 350w which would save you a bit of money but ocuk no longer stock.

I had the same query for my NAS / Media box and I brought the OCZ 500W ModStreem and it is very quiet - perfect in fact. My main reason for choosing this was that it has 6 SATA power cables and thats what i needed

Yeah the old Corsair 400W was great, but they replaced it with the 430W which wasnt the same build quality. hmm, yes thats a good point the sata connectors.
I had wondered about the antec eco green 380w

The CX430W uses a sleeve bearing fan unlike the ball bearing fan in the CX400W. This will make it quieter but at the expensive of a shorter lifespan.

Even OCZ has changed from sleeve bearing fans to ball bearing fans for its StealthXStream II range.

Also,Corsair are introducing a V2 version of the current CX series which has improved efficiency.

Funnily enough the CX430W units in both the JonnyGURU and Hardwaresecrets reviews seem to use different capacitors. The ones in the example tested art Hardwaresecrets uses Teapo and Samxon capacitors and not the cheaper Trec ones in the JonnyGURU example.

BTW,the CX430W costs around $45 in the US but usually has rebates which drops the price to around $25 to $30. The CX430W at the lower price is extremely good value for money and in the US is CHEAPER than the CX400W it replaced.

Also, the earlier CX400W got a higher overall rating at Hardwaresecrets due to its better efficiency.

The CX400W was a top unit, the CX430W not so much.

That BeQuiet looks like it might be the same basic OEM design as the CX400W, I'd look into that. The CX400W was based on the Seasonic S12II-430 design, which isn't the most efficient by today's standards, but they're massively over-specced for the listed wattage, so will run solid for many years, and cope with much more powerful systems than most give them. I reckon my system could probably run on one if not OC'd so far.

The Be Quiet units uses FSP as their OEM IIRC.

The OP should also have a look at the Antec EarthWatts and High Current Gamer units. For around the same price you can also get Seasonic branded S12II units.
