Does anybody else hate carrying passengers?

my memory is poor, but you were driving so slow we didn't know which way the convoy went iirc?

During the first few miles I was getting it a moderate amount of stick to keep within sight of the grey ST220 (Horwards?), but I kept on getting flashed by the Alfa behind me in the 'Slow down' manor. I thought this generally meant 'Slow down, it is a convoy not a race' something that I agree with, so I slowed it down a couple of notches and made progress at the NSL. Something that is apparently not good enough for all of you! :D.

I never thought sensible driving would land me such ridicule :p.

He was driving so slowly that even a member of the public in an ancient white Merc 190D left him behind, and when we got to a junction half the convoy took the opportunity to overtake him in order to salvage at least some enjoyment from the NSL A Roads we'd negotiated at no more than 40mph.

First flash was "hang on, we've left Steedie for dead, slow up a sec"

All subsequent flashes were "JESUS CHRIST! STOP DRIVING SO SLOWLY!!!!"

As far as I am concerned, we were on a public road, not a race track, and I tend to treat the public roads with a certain amount of caution, Especially when these roads are wet, 'blind', completely unknown to me and not to mention that I did not have a clue where I was going for 95% of the journey which didn't exactly help my speed.

And when exactly did this big rush to overtake me on a junction happen exactly? I don't remember it. What I do remember is willingly pulling over to let other cars in front because I didn't know where I was going, and then got temporarily stuck on the grass (open diff FTL) so a few more passed me.

Honestly I'd have thought that a young lad taking it easy despite being in a turbocharged RWD surrounded by people to show off in front of would at least have been something that was respected/admired. Instead I get mocked and ridiculed for not going balls out? I'm sure if the boot was on the other foot and I was driving like a mentalist people would have still have had a jolly good moan, especially if I had stacked it. I can almost hear the 'It was too much car for him' comments already

Drive like a **** on the Public road, show off and put your car into a ditch = You get laughed at.

Keep the spirited driving for the Track and take it nice and easy in conditions that you don't feel comfortable in = You get laughed at.

You really can't win here :( :o :p.

Only if they have an issue with how I drive and I have to avoid using VTEC. My best passengers are the ones who stop mid-sentence when I hit VTEC and continue after I am done :D

Ahaha Yes!

...and the ones that go:

*vtec yo*
Them: 'WHAT THE BLOOOOOODY HELL WAS THAT
me: vtec y0
Them: '..woah'

Perhaps it would have been had the one time you did give it beans not almost ended up in a horrific head on collision with an oncoming vehicle.

Yep. The ONE time I drive out of my 'comfort' zone I almost get pancaked by a 4x4. Says it all to me. I'll keep my beans for the track thank you very much :).

Nobody is suggesting you should have driven outside your comfort zone at all. To suggest such a thing would be reckless and pathetic.

It just amuses some of us that your comfort zone is 40mph given the car you choose to drive :p Perhaps the move to a powerful RWD car (Heck, it was one of the most powerful cars there!) was a bit too soon at 19 :)

If you overtake and nearly pancake your car then clearly it was a terrible overtake.

Out of interest, what car did you take? :)

It isn't exactly built for lanes is it? :p

I'm happy to give it the legs on the type of roads it was built to be fast but it'll take a bit more experience and work until I'm happy to hustle it down some backroads :).

The overtake really scared me because as far as I was concerned, I did everything right. The road seemed completely clear, there was good viability and plenty of space. It was only when I was side by side when the car I was overtaking did I notice a set of headlights rapidly approaching .

The car was/is a Toyota Soarer Twin Turbo :)

Don't mind carrying passengers, do get annoyed when trying to demonstrate something and the car lets me down though, like when the viscous diff in Kate's 200SX got too hot and wouldn't let me paint big black S shapes up the road any more.

L1J refused to come when I took his Mk2 Golf Turbo out for a spin :( Gaylord.

Ahh that car was awesome, I liked the turn in the road...and trying to find a petrol station, only to find it was closed down! :D

If that was at the meet, Muffin was foolish enough to get in though. :D
