My EVO X selected as an R&D car by Forge Motorsport

What happens if they mess up?

If they mess up as in scratch the car or break anything, they replace it for new stock item, have this in writing.

In regards to engine going pop or anything well nearly all the kit they are putting on the car does not effect power much if at all. The FMIC might add a little due to cooler denser air.

But they are not remapping which means the cars ECU will keep everything in check and Powerstation shall be monitoring the car and I know and trust Powerstation so happy.

I'd be reading the small print very carefully!

Gibbo, does this mean the new car idea is on the shelf for a bit then?

New car has always been scheduled for April, basically during these cold months nothing better than an EVO on snow tyres. :)

In April I will either change the car if I find something I like to replace it, if not as I have all the accompanying mods for big power, all I'd need is a bigger turbo, injectors and fuel pump, plus some engine work for 500BHP so could consider that and just keep saving for something truly special or a big house deposit.

I'm sure everyone else who wanted to put their cars forward are well impressed that you've been selected and you know you probably won't have the car more than a month after it's all done :p

Intake - Obvious, I guess they will just try an improved design.
Intercooler with hardpipes - Is this the same as an FMIC? If so how will it improve power etc?
Brake lines - Better brake pedal feel?
Clutch line - Not got a clue, what will this do?
Short shifter - This is so needed on the EVO, be nice to have short throw like the Subarus have. :)
Catch tank kit - What is this?
Coolant hoses - Yes for those who like a flash under bonnet?
Coolant tank - What is this?
Power steering tank - What is this?
BOV - Something to hold boost and give a more flutter/whoosh sound.

1. you already know
2. FMIC is a front mounted intercooler so yes its a new intercooler, probably larger, more free flowing, colder air in the system.
3. pretty much
4. no idea i'm afraid :(
5. you already know
6. oil catch tank kit - cathes oil that would otherwise be put back into the engine
7. pretty much
8. alloy coolant header tank, instead of standard plastic. Just bling
9. alloy power steering fluid tank, again just bling.
10. Blow Off Valve - aka dump valve.

A bottle/tank that vented oil will be collected in. ***** method is an old drinks bottle :D.

Normally it's either routed back to inlet or vented to atmosphere. Vented to atmosphere is a big no no for competiton cars (don't want someone dumping their excess oil on the track!) and scrutineers are pretty picky on it.

the mod is very popular on astra VXRs, which normally just route the oil back to the inlet manifold. People have been known to take the pipe leading to the manifold off to find it coverd in oil. Doubt it does it any harm, but it makes it very messy in there !

2. FMIC is a front mounted intercooler so yes its a new intercooler, probably larger, more free flowing, and helps chill the coolant more. Expect reduced coolant temps and less of a raise in coolant temps during the summer

Intercoolers chill the coolant?

Yea I would presume the new intake stuff they are adding to your car (Bigger air filter etc) doesn't incorporate a feed for the vented oil so they need to install a catch tank to capture it instead.

I also presume they will do braided hoses for your brakes, which will expand less under hard braking than the standard ones giving you better feel as you say.

Luck of the draw, I am not complaining. :)

Completely off topic but do you still live at home? For some reason I always imagined you living in a mansion next door to Spie until you mentioned the house deposit. :)

Had a poke around the forge motorsport stand at the autosport show last month and the metal work on the pipes and intercoolers was seriously impressive. They had a new focus Rs that was loaded with all their gear and it all looked pretty spectacular.

From what I've heard, they're quite well known on the modified ford scene but not so much anywhere else. But the ford people seem to highly rate them.

Forge are known quite well amongst VW scenes as they make the de facto (possibly even only, i've not seen much mention of competing products) replacement diverter valve for the 1.8T engine, normal BOVs confuse the ECU.

Yeh as Kenai says Forge motorsport build quality parts for tuning cars. They have an excellent reputation and they charge well for it too! I replaced my VW diverter valve on my 2.0T as it the OEM one went bang after a remap (quite common apparently!). The Forge one is awesome and going strong a year later! Their parts are sold by many tuners including Jabba Sport who did my remap.

So Gibbo don't worry about Forge, they know what they are doing!

I had my own place down south, but have moved back up north now and living with parents until I feel the need for my own place. :)

clutch line may bypass a clutch delay valve if you have one, that will change the pedal feel which I know you have been slated the evo on before.

I have one of their intercoolers on my car and it helps quite a bit in reducing heat soak.

I wouldn't be worried about letting them loose on your car, they make some great products.

Neil.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. You lend them your car, and get it back with a few extra miles on the clock but thousands of pounds worth of kit on it, plus all your original parts back so if you dont like them you can swap them straight back and sell them on.
