Guys, I am up for company car renewal. Yesterday, I sat in one of these new F10 520D SE's at BMW Sytners - man, the car seems superb !!! Feels more like an Ocean Liner than car - Luxurious inside even as standard spec and built like brick sh**house. To top it all the emissions are so low that is is a very affordable car. Amazing they get so much performance in a two ton car from a 2l engine.... Sure the 530 is better but that is way above my grade and emissions/P11D makes it too expensive.

Even bog standard it has full leather, USB, Bluetooth, heated Seats, parking sensors front and rear and drives superb.

Very, very seriously tempted - considering I want cruising comfort for big weekly mileage and not tear ar**ing around. Was looking at a Mondeo Titanium X or Avant A4 but frankly the Beemer is only a few quid more because of its low emissions. And its a 5 series !

Thoughts appreciated.

It is probably one of the very best all-round cars on sale today. The 2 litre diesel is a bit diesely but this alone isnt enough to ruin what is an otherwise sensational car.

I was frankly astonished by this car mate. Utterly. It drives superb. The build is amazing. Inside and outside. Yes, my thoughts are about cruising the M1/A43/M40/M25 for 800 miles a week nowadays - and to do so in comfort and safety. This car looks a winner for me.

I would love to add a load of options but that boosts the taxable value too much and even as standard it is just super.

I am almost certain I will go for it.

Anyone else with thoughts?

You cannot go wrong with any F10. The only thing better is a more expensive F10 :p
This. The 520d is the only one I haven't driven (apart from the 523i and 528i, but those are pointless anyway..)
They are all just fantastic. You shouldn't have to think twice, do it.

Indeed - lol.... Its just that my mind was set on a 330d. But after sitting in the 520 at the dealers, just five minutes before I signed my 330d order "just to see", I was blown away by the 520. The size of the car is disconcerting at first - and I have only ever driven 3 series/A4's/Passat's - but my mind is made up. I am going for the 5'er me thinks.

Don't rush into this though, have a look at what else is out there. The standard spec is pretty good, but see if you can get some other cars with more spec.
Were you about to buy a new 330d?

It's a company car, he wasnt about to buy anything.
Good :p

Regarding the options, they're all excellent, apart from the Active Steering which I really don't like.
My favourites were the HUD, comfort seats, dynamic drive and the front and rear cameras..

Professional Nav is a given.

It's a bit of a no brainer isn't it! I haven't driven one yet but they are phenomenal cars. The engine is as refined as a 4 pot diesel gets with plenty of power on tap for daily duties and incredibly effiecient.

My Brother in law has an F10 525d, he loves it, unfortunately for him, my sister has a long trip this week. He's gone off to London via train, she has his F10 & her E320 CDi is left sat on the drive!

They both find the Merc uncomfortable for long trips, clearly! :D

The 520d is impressive, the 525 does have the edge (in the view of my Brother in law & his experience of his old one!) - I'd hardly be crying if I had any f10 tbh.

One day I'll have one. - I have never (with the excpetion of the M5) thought that of an e60!

Thanks everyone. Going to fill the paperwork out later today before any price hikes takes the 520 out of my grade allowance

Yes, sorry for waxing lyrical. But this car is close to spot on for big mileage cruising in comfort.

It's a fantastic car and you won't get a better package than this. Are you going to be able to spec any options?

F10 > E90.

The only reason to buy an E90 is if you cannot afford an F10, IMHO.

Why don't you just hold onto your E39 until you can afford an F10 and skip the E92/E90?
