No, not a Valentines proposal.

What makes an official thread an official thread? Is it the youtube videos, the reams of copy/pasted data, the detailed discussion contained within of all the games faults and failings or those stars either side of the title.

I propose that all official threads should have a poll with a range of options from great to rubbish so that users can see at a glance what the majority think of a game.

Pros:

Quick and easy way to find out if a game is considered good or bad

Cons:

Thundycat will have more work

Obviously a poll is no replacement for all the omgz this game is made of epic win/fail comments or discourse over the finer points on the exclusion of prone but it could be a useful addition to the official threads.

Poll is great idea but any "Official" thread starter can request a poll so the emphasis is on them really, not the admin team.

A good "official" thread normally comes from the OP providing links to other reviews, screen shots, official and unofficial game links, updates, DLCs, performance charts and so on.. A book mark for all the infomation you need which then becomes a central discussion point. It also prevents thread duplication.

The only problem with official threads is sometimes finding your way to the information you need.. Wood through trees so to speak..

Ah, sorry. I did know this, I just should have mentioned it. The reference to Thundy having to do more work was not that he should meticulously go around every official thread but that poll requests could possibly increase.
 
Sometimes "official" threads become "official" by accident and aren't declared so by the OP.

When an "official" thread obviously becomes the central thread for all discussion regarding a specific game, an admin could easily add a 1-10 poll.

However as what you're suggesting makes a lot of sense and would require changing the forum, I expect most people will hate the idea. Shame.
 
I think the best thing to tidy up this section is to REMOVE THE FREAKING ASTERIXESESES!!!!!******************************
 
Problem with polls is they shouldn't really be done upon release (or before it). Wait 2-4 weeks then activate a poll which is then more work for admins. Just helps keep out knee-jerk reactions.

I agree, especially if people are going to be playing unfinished products before release.
 
Here's my thoughts as i make official threads :p

All official threads MUST contain some form of a template

ABOUT GAME
RELEASE DATE
SCREENSHOTS
TRAILERS
LINKS

Too many threads claim official and only contain one link or a tiny bit of info, also without official threads people tend to post too many threads on the same game when one thread will do. Sure nobody has made me boss of the forum but it works far better this way
 
OP must edit their opening post whether they play the game or not. Too many times i've seen the OP not play the game anymore, so the opening post doesn't get updated with new servers, Voice IP servers etc.

Personally think it would be a nice touch to break the forums down a little bit into the main categories like "FPS, RTS, MMO" and just keep the PC Games itself as a general thing

It does seem awful cluttered in here :)

**************PC gaming is dead though, they would be ghost towns************

We should stick together, strength in numbers and all that.

But they don't like change so I very much doubt it will happen the category break down
I hope it happens tho
 
Theres no need to breakdown by category. Its not exactly hard to go back a page or 2 to find a thread if its recent, otherwise you'd be searching regardless.

Plus people will then argue over what category a game fits in :p
 
I find for an official overview of what games may be good a site like http://www.gamerankings.com/ is better, which collates a hell of a lot of review scores and gives games an overarching % score based on them all - good games will always stand out across the board. Obviosusly these critics are by no means perfect in being neutral, but the average score is usually a good indicator. The trouble with poll posts on here is there's no need to be unbiased or fair, so people could easily abuse it in their favour (think MMORPG.com ratings with ridiculous games having high ratings).
