So basically on the small side of things, i need to adjust the image in soft proofing comparible to my printer then print?. I've noticed that the Colour Balance is out both red and green also brightness via soft proof. Because i haven't been soft proofing this might be what was causing my issues?

Or am i talking balls :D

Cheers Adrianr

You're talking waffles, tasty waffles my friend...

Listen...you are soft proofing using a setting made by Canon based on their paper (Photo Paper Pro if I remember correctly) and their own inkset for which they can predict and test the output so they know have a pretty good idea of what it will look like.

You aren't using either Canon paper or Canon inks so your soft proof is in effect useless because you are proofing for a paper/ink combination that you aren't using.

Honestly...save yourself lots of time a spend a couple of quid getting some lab prints done.

:mad::mad:

I thought sod it, lets give this a go!

Just Selected Plain Paper in the printer properties, HOWEVER i then selected ADOBE RGB as the printer profile.

PERFECT Colour, PERFECT Brightness and Contrast!

Previous - Plain Paper + Ip4500 Series Plain Paper Printer Profile
= GREEN Tone'd Black and White

NOW - Plain Paper + Adobe RGB Printer Profile = Perfect.

I'll get myself some proper Canon Paper this weekend and see what we get!. Atleast the inks are good ;)

You selected plain paper in the driver when you had photo paper loaded?

Lol well done for being persistant, if it works for you it works!

Print two photographs at the same time on the same paper and ink combination, put one in a photo album in a drawer, and the other on display, leave them six months then compare them and tell me if they are good inks. ;) :p

Glad to hear you are getting something sorted though!

heh noooo, i had plain paper in the printer selected plain paper profile from canon for my printer = GREEN!. Plain Paper in Printer + Adobe RGB / SRGB Printer profile = PERFECT.

When i get the glossy paper i'll try it out :D, i used to have perfect prints that were spot on. I must've changed something for it to go t** up!, i never remember having the canon printer profile on for last years prints. However only this year i'm pushing my photo quality

It's either heading to be the printer or ink, blacks look purple... Whites come out more cream coloured and whats worse i'm starting to get these black splodges like something's leaked down the very edge of my paper! :(

Using Canon Paper now

This thread would be funny if I hadn't had similar problems about 5 years ago :D

Printers can absolutely destroy your mind! :D

If you're printing a page with what is numerically neutral white and black (all equal rgb values) and its coming out cream and purple its more than likely crap ink. Either that or you're viewing the prints under some funky lights. If you have any colour managment turned on in the print driver it could be screwing with it too, especially if the printer is expecting the inks to behave differently.

Home printing doesn't have to cost the earth, but there's certainly a minimal level of investment that's worthwhile, otherwise you may as well just get everything done at a lab.

It's heading to be the printer, sometime this year i was printing on the same paper and inks and my images looked flat or atleast they had no depth to them. Thinking it was my monitor i calibrated it and still the same. However one morning i printed out a full colour image and it came out bright green(the entire image!). Printed again on a different profile setting and it came out bright yellow.

Cleaned the printer head any ink blockages and the yellow/green stopped. However i'm now starting to see what looks to be black splatters on the edges of my paper. Like a leaking ink. However the cartridges look to be ok!.

As with whites becoming more cream and blacks more purple it's really heading towards the printer. I've had the printer for nigh on two years and it's printed a lot, there also LOTS of complaints on the internet regarding this printer and colour cast problems and some returned.

I took the print head out and it looks as if black has at some point leaked itself all over the connections. You have like coloured strips but it seems black was all over the place.

Cleaned it up, trying a reprint!

EDIT
Just printed out a test image and it's much better, but on the second image the black splodges are showing up again

Just think, you could have had your perfectly printed pictures back from the lab by now. :p;)

True but i need a printer anyway for general use, can't have a printer printing out shots from the web at different colours :o.

Canon PIXMA iP4850 Colour Photo Printer, ordered and cheaper than ocuk by £5 :p
