Just got my yaris t sport last week and havent been able to drive it yet due to no insurance lol
anyway whenever i leave it for awhile and then start it up and rev a huge amount of smoke comes out the back and it smells quite bad :/

is this just because its left for awhile without having a proper run or is the engine oil getting into the exhaust bit lol

???

oh yer and the smoke isnt black or blue so it cant be oil or antifreeze can it ???

probably just condensation becoming steam in the exhaust system, what colour is it? Why do you mean by smells bad, eggy, acrid, what?

Is it constant or does it go away as the car warms up? If its only when you start it up it could be oil seeping into the combustion chamber when the car is standing.

i was thinking condensation maybe as its been raining a lot, and it just smells like petrol but much stronger than usual and it has a slightly burnt smell to it O.o

Don't rev it from cold/stationary - it'll hurt it.

If it's water vapour then it'll eventually go as things hot up.

If it keeps coming you've got a problem.

its not uncommon for the water vapour to smell on a cold morning

Your car will be burning an extra rich petrol / air mixture on cold mornings as part of its warm up cycle.

This can usually give it a really strong "petrol" smell.

ah kk, i just revved it because a mate was round and id not started it for a good 20 hours, it did only last about 10 seconds and then the smoke started to die down

does it look like the sort of thing that comes out of your kettle when it boils or does it look like this ?

thats burning oil as the turbo has gone. This is condensation

notice the difference.

Condensation is much more whispy and thin.

thanks for that link

i have to say that its no where near as bad as that

maybe im just being paranoid as its my first car XD

ah and just saw that second video and its the same as mine so im guessing it must be the condensation :)

as somebody said above, if its burning oil it won't go away.

If its water vapour it will eventually disappear or get much thinner if you leave it running.

I'm guessing with it being your first car you've not run one in the cold and seen this before ?

My Swift sport loves giving out condensation lol. When you get to give your car a good run out you will notice it gone.

:)

Hi,

It's nothing to worry about. Mine does the same on a first start, to warm the car up you're meant to warm it up "while driving" and not idle. So drive it until the Blue light goes off.

Just whatever you do, don't rev it at stationary and don't rev it hard on first start while driving. A good way to know the cars warmed up proper is when the heaters are on and give a nice warm air depending on temperature and not cold.

Hope it helps.
