Track Days

Track insurance for me was no more expensive than your bog standard insurance.. you just need to go to the specilists

I went to compitition car insurance who quoted me the best cover.

I guess insurance is a must thinking about it! Could be some nice exotic cars tracking the same time as I do, and all it takes is me to hit one, or for them to hit me and I shall be liable for costs. No way am I going to take that risk as just like been on the road its the other people 99% of times who hit into you.

When I have been on trackdays I have gone with at least one other person.

Gives you someone to talk to, a car to put all the tools/wheels in to keep them safe, someone to help you out and to stop you going OTT!

I take two quick lift jacks, spare set of wheels with track tyres, some oil, basic tools, footpump, tyre pressure gauge, torque wrench.

It depends on your driving and the temperature but you are likely to wear a couple of mm minimum off road tyres during the day, more if its hot/summer.

You wouldn't want to be doing much more than 20 minutes anyway, as the oil temperature will probably be getting quite high by then and if you are using standard brakes/tyres they will be beginning to fade.

I left my spare wheel on and took a passenger on track with me, didn't slow me down too much! Just helps keep the balance you would have on the road with the car ;)

why? seems utterly pointless to save ~10kg

and my tool box, 2ton jack, 2 axel stands and food and drink for the day? Dont want that flying around the boot... but then i didnt have a boot because i took the seats out too :p

Same, it wasnt about the weight for me it was more the fact that stuff flies about the car smacking into stuff whenever you corner hard!

Liable for your own costs you mean? You wouldn't be liable for the other car on a track day even if it was your fault. Equally if someone else hits you - you still pay for the damage to your car.

This.

You pay for your own car, it's not like the 'ring which is a public road during tourist sessions therefore you have to pay for third party damages to other cars.

I seriously doubt you could claim anything from a third party or a third party claim off of you through civil court as at the end of the day had you not taken your car on a track it wouldn't have been damaged etc...

Tracks are "At your own risk".

Obvious exception to this is you drive like a complete bell and seriously mess up and hit someone then you could get in a spot of bother.

Take it easy and pay attention to what is happening around you and you will be fine. Oh and enjoy the inevitable pooie pants moment about 6 laps in at the end of a main straight ;)

Ahhh thats good to know guys thanks :) So insurance is not really needed? I guess it is just don't like the feeling of not been covered 'if' something does happen, not like I will be an idiot but you never know what may happen!

Would like to see what the little Clio can do! See if I can scare the big boys :D Doubt it mind. Just want to put the car through some hard sessions.

My decat may be a factor on some courses, don't they have a limit? And can you drive how you want and how quick? I quess there are some sort of rules and codes to follow. I have not really paid much attention to the rules, just got told to drive up and away you go! May need some more looking into. Got pleanty of time till the nice weather starts.

RSclio, Unless you have a very loud exhaust I doubt you will struggle with noise limits, my Astra has a turbo back Remus exhaust which is loud and I have never had and issue even with bedford whom are aparently rather strict. If you just have a decat then you will be fine.

Ahh okies, tis quite loud! I'm sure I got told high 80s maybe 90db, not too sure though. Just knew some had restrictions, Guess it should be good to go then :D!!

P.S Sorry to kinda steal your thread davy89! You have a clio too IIRC? 172?

It's OK dude! All the discussion is widening my knowledge further!

Yeah I have dude, 172, have a cat-back milltek exhaust + apollo k&n induction kit arriving this week! Don't normally agree with mods but it felt the need! What about you?

Cool cool!! :D I was going to get a 172 strip it out and make it hard-core! Not many people realise how quick they are as they (no offence here) look like a normal Clio, if that makes sense! So understated.

Mine, well it’s had a bit of work done! :D Ermmm. Apex springs and shocks (Not the best) but they make the car stick round a corner like it’s on rails. Milltek decat exhaust, RSTuner, V6 Airbox with the battery moved into the boot, better cams and the gearbox has been rebuilt with some stronger selectors and whatnot, plus a lighter clutch and flywheel. Not any massive hardcore mods or that give good gains. Running around 20BHP over standard. Really really want to get it supercharged by RS Tuning in Leeds. All of the stuff got done when my best buddy had the car. He spends a fortune on it, about £2k in total.

I wouldn't worry about scaring anyone, just drive your own laps and forget about anyone else in terms of comparing performance.

Good advice :) Need to see what the car can do mind! Open it up, something you can't do on the roads, well you can but I don't want to risk anything.

Bet it goes! :D
