had this screen since april last year and when i got it it had 1 dead pixel, it was never a problem and i never realy noticed it.. but now its got bright green lines comming from it both vertically and horizontaly and its turned into a constant white pixel with black smudging around it like its burnt out :o , ive tried taking a screen shot to show the problem but it doesnt show up in the pic :/

if i massage the screen the green lines will flicker on/off but the white pixel with the burnt out looking smudge around it is there the whole time... time to RMA?

That monitor is covered by the Dell Premium Panel Guarantee, which means that you get a replacement if there is a single bright pixel.

I suggest you call up dell, give them your details (including the monitor serial number, the reseller you purchased the monitor from and the Dell Works Order Number - on the original box), explain to them the problem and they should send out a replacement monitor immediately.

Often dell will give you a refurbished monitor as a replacement, if you press them then they will usually send you a new one but it will take longer to arrive.

As for taking a screenshot of the problem - the screenshot just captures the image that is output from the graphics card. A physical problem with the monitor will not be captured - you will need a camera for that.

thanks for that m8, il get onto them this week and try to get a new one rather than a referb :) i got it direct from del so theres no 3rd party to go through

You will need to push them. Tell them that you bought a new monitor and that you have heard that these refurbs often have other problems, tell them of user stories of people that got new monitors (I DID!)... it depends on the rep but generally they all end up giving you a new one.

however if you want a battery for your alienware laptop dell wont sell you them even tho they are the same batterys you have to ring up alienware : /

quick update, just got off the phone with Dell, ive got a replacement arriving between 9-5 tomorrow but they refused point blank to issue a brand new screen :/
she said it will have to be a referb but assured me it would be ok and i can swap it if there is anything im unhappy about with it

just got my RMA replacement from dell, the delivery guy was in a rush to unpack it on my doorstep and it fell out of the polystyrene cocoon that it was packed in, he thought the stand was connected to the screen and it wasnt lol.. great job :/ he was full of apologies but ive got to stay in tomorrow now and wait for another one to be delivered :(

grrr, just got me RMA replacement through and its got a line of blue pixels 1cm away from the left side bezel and 11.5cm long! looks like its going back again :(

I would just call them and say that the service is completely unacceptable and ask for a new screen.

tbh there customer service is very good, within 4 hours of recieving this screen the rep i delt with for the RMA phoned up to make sure i was happy,. i explained the blue pixel problem and she said she would ship another one out tomorrow, i wasnt at home when she called so arranged for her to phone back tomorrow as she needed serial numbers from back of screen ect.
i will be asking for a new screen though and not another referb pulled from a pool of RMA rejects !
