I currently have a BMW 118D SE company car and im thinking of taking the cash when the lease runs out (350 a month) and pocketing the cash and buying a car. I quite fancy a Mazda 6 diesel around 07-08 plate.

How would this car compare to a BMW in terms of ride quality etc. Will I end up hating it?

Will that be the previous shape or current shape 6 you are looking at as it changed about then.

one of the bosses at work has his as a company car.

He can't stand BMWs and loves it. Reckon you should be fine if you don't like the ride in your 1 series.

They are good cars but will depreciate like a stone so don't get too carried away with what you spend.

Not much too worry about but look for s/h etc

I was thinking no more than 6-7k. Work are moving me up to lease level 2 which goes up from 275 to 350 a month. I think after 2 lease cars pocket the cash and get my student loan paid off.

Regarding the 1 series I love it, but the mrs hates it. To make things worse I didn't even tell her I was getting it until it turned up and we share the car between us...

It's 07/08 he is looking at so the bulk of depreciation has been done.

If I may, try and go for a TS2 as a minimum as it adds nice things like 6CD changer and voice activated Bluetooth Handsfree etc.

Some of the later 08's may possibly come with the higher powered diesel engine (circa 163PS as opposed to 143PS)

No, they come with a AUX IN headphone socket for this but TBH, for your budget you won't get a current shape Mazda 6 Diesel unless its done mega miles IMHO.

Your best bet would be to look at a late previous shape Mazda 6 Sport Diesel. Cracking cars.

Don't be put out off by he base Ts model it still well speced and a bluetooth parrot is £160 and that will let you stream music

TS is actually the 2nd model up, the base model for Mazda 6 is "S" which you should avoid like the plague.

As Macca said, and the fact thats you would be best going for the late older model for your budget, the TS would be fine. You will effectively lose 6CD changer and BOSE sound system against the TS2 and also auto lights/wipers and xenons and bodykit for the Sport but thats really all. I would recommend the 143PS as opposed to the 136PS model tho... Much nicer
