Hi all,

Quick mandatory last minute post regarding a new sandy bridge setup.

-Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz
-Asus P8P67
-G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C7 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

I'm planning on using existing PSU (Coolermaster 1000W), DVD-RW, Antec 902 Case, 5830.

What i'm concerned with though is the SATA problems. I am planning on using 2 x Samsung F3 1TB hard drives, along with the DVD-RW. How will the problem affect my usage (if at all)? This is the only thing making me want to wait, but i really need a PC for work (old one died).

Thank you. :)

Edit: Doh, one other thing. I definitely want to upgrade to 8gb once i get paid in a few weeks. How are SB setups overclocking with all 4 memory banks filled? I remember the i7s had quite a struggle overclocking as well. Is it definitely recommended to get a 2x4GB sticks, or will i be fine just adding in another 2x2gb sticks later on next week?

the asus board has plenty of sata3.0 ports that are not affected.

change the ram to

corsair xms3

or

geil value ram.

Cool, so its just the 3gbps ports that are affected, not the 6gbps? And is it all backward compatible? (i.e a HDD that isnt 6gbps?)

Any particular reason for the RAM change? The Gskill seems to be faster in latency speeds, but is it less compatible or harder to get working? I have more faith in Corsair as a brand, but the latencies don't seem amazing for only 1600mhz? I'm no expert at all, so if there is no difference i will save myself the cash!

its all compatible.

its only the sata2 ports that are affected.

the ram change is because you may want to add a performance heatsink, the height is a issue, and they are cheap.

You can see the asrock statement on this issue here http://www.asrock.com/news/events/201102ex/index.html
Click on the yellow (Click for detail) link at the bottom of the page

Sorry i don't have a link for the asus statement or know if they release one..

Oh bugger yeah that's a point, the noctua d14 needs low profile heatsinks on the RAM. Have amended. Cheers for the link chaparral, have taken a look.

Cheers fellas. Placed an order for the corsair stuff, and instead got the Pro variant of the motherboard.

Old system was a core2duo, so hopefully be quite a bit faster.
