Is it worth overclocking XMS3?

Hi,

I've done a little googling but haven't found a simple answer. I'm running my 2500K comfortably at 4 gigs. I know it's hardly an earth shattering overclock, but, well, it keeps me happy. I just like tinkering without causing any time consuming crashes. It'll do me for now.

I was wondering though if it is worth overclocking my 2*2 gig XMS3 which is currently set to 1.5625v in the bios. (I was experiencing freeze ups but nipped the ddr3 voltage up a little from 1.5v to 1.5625v . Seems ok now, but tbh, I'm not sure it was the voltage increase that cured the freeze problems.)

How much performance gain would be got from overclocking ddr3 that is currently running at 1600mhz? I have no real need at the moment to squeeze the most out of my system but if overclocking ram, by simple means, meant a dramatic increase for little effort then count me in.

If gains are low then I don't think I'd bother. It's just curiosity. This system is actually fast enough for my needs as it is.

Thanks.

edit: timings currently set at 9,9,9,9,24,1T (if I recall correctly)

You would'nt really gain any performance increase appart from in benchmarks that the memory bandwidth.

Thanks. If there isn't any real world performance gain, other than benchmarking, I'll leave it be and save myself some potential stress.

They will likely run at 8-9-8-24 1T timings with 1.55 - 1.6v, if you do want to try overclocking them.

Would it be worth the hassle? Seems like small changes to me. I'm an utter novice at overclocking. Maybe I'd be better off leaving well enough alone.

Real world gains are low, overclocking prestige is priceless! :D

Mine running at 1.52v 7-8-7-20 1T (1531 MHz)

Tweaking is what your hardware is for! ;)
