Another OcUK Competition - Re-Design our front page!

Coming soon, the competition to come and unblock the toilet in the upstairs gents at OcUK HQ.

Much easier than paying someone to do it! :p

PK!

Maybe I'm a cynic but I don't think you should be taking advantage of your (loyal) customer base in this manor. I know there's no obligation for anyone to enter but surely the going rate of a website (especially for a successful e-commerce site) is greater than the prize on offer. Seems to me like you're looking for something for nothing. Would be fairer to ask for proof of concepts from forum users then pay them a fair price for their expertise.

I agree, people are paid to do this and it's slightly weird that they're being asked for designs in their own time. There are prizes, but well, they could be some returns for all we know. :p

However it is a competition that they don't have to enter....so.. can imagine this being useful for students or somebody need for a portfolio boost (?).

i disagree and think you can see it in a negative way or you can see it how it is which is positive. rather then pay some random person to make an image for a company they don't know of, let the loyal members have the option first to take part and create something for ocuk so they can help take part in its success. ocuk provide a free forum to us but they're paying for it. if they then use this forum to get a slightly cheaper image done by someone who likes the company enough then i see no harm in that. i'd love to be able to contribute towards this and any other competitions but don't have the skill unfortunately as it'd be great to come onto this site and see something i've done

1. Forum is not technically free, we pay for it as customers through our purchases in the store. Never believe for one moment that there is such a thing as a free lunch in this world. Many of these loyal forum goers will also be loyal shoppers.

2. If you are helping in the success of a company by providing a means to better advertise / promote them then you should get going rates for the job in hand.

In my mind this is no different than say Tesco's asking their loyal customers to take part in a competition to re-design the store logo with the prize being a £100 shopping voucher. If we saw this we'd all be saying NO WAI.... tesco make millions they should pay going rate !!!!

I thought you filled the graphic designer role?

We have. :)
We also have an additional marketeer coming onboard too.

We could do this ourselves quite easily as has been demonstrated but we thought we'd give you guys the opportunity to do so and the chance of winning something. :)

No , the professionals will think meh its not worth my time for £100 but the amateurs will still have a go. At the end of the day if people are happy with the prize they will do it , if not they wont do it. Its as simple as that.
