Hey, im currently doing abit of research for a possible project and could use abit of advice on somthing.

Im looking to put my 1155 i5 in a micro ATX board that could handle it at 3.6-4.0ghz in a mATX case, currently the Gigabyte H55M-UD2H looks the part allthough it has no heatsinks for the VRM (Phase units?).

My question is, could i do this to the motherboard....

Normal MB

Same stuff as this

..basicly cover the majority of the motherboard with milled acetal so it fits over everything, aswell as perforating it with lots of holes to give ventilation. To mask all the crappy looking bits of the mb and make it looks very unique.

It sounds crazy, but if i made room for all the capacitors and possibly the phase/vrm units(rough idea in the pictures), could the rest of the motherboard handle being covered like that? Useing very thin Acetal(1-3mm) aswell as perforating it with ventilation holes/slots

Why not just stick some small heatsinks on the VRM's that you're worried about? your motherboard would get better ventilation from being left as it is rather than covered with a jacket.

I'm guessing it wouldn't appreciate the modification but I'd imagine it would still work! Is this for an art project?

No,no, just a crazy idea for a white case mod/project. I can find a white case and paint some ram sinks, i can use white braid and cover a gpu with a nickel backplate and white acetal top, but there is allways the ugly motherboard sticking out unless you go with blue or black colours.

I want to be able to cover the majority of the motherboard to mask its uglyness, and still keep it working basically.

Looks like a home made Asus Sabertooth p67 tuf board :)
They covered everything up except slots to protect from heat.

Cant see why it should be a problem :)

Asus Sabertooth p67

Wow , thats exactly the idea i was looking for, unfortunalty its atx :(

Probably should elaborate that i wanted to hide the ugly motherboard parts as it will be in a case with three windows (front and both sides) so wanted to stealth it away as much as possible.

Wonder if the 'heat shield' and phase heat sinks can be removed and painted without any dramatic loss of performace? hmm...definatly what i was looking for though :D
