My Xbox has decided to die today (after a blast on BLOPS I was going to watch a DVD, switched it off and on again and 3ROD ahoy). I had my launch day console repaired August 2007 for the same thing - do I take it I'm going to have to eat the £68 repair fee despite the fact this is a well known problem?

Thanks for any advice guys, particularly on anyone else who's had this happen once out of warranty.

I think it would be £68. Seems like the console is quite a bit out of warranty.

If you haven't already, and it is just happened, unplug everything and then try it again in about half an hour. Other than that I don't think there are any good ways to fix it yourself.

If you cant get out of the £68 repair charge the xbox S with 250gb hard drive is going for £159 at the moment.

I just bought one at this price. 2 places doing this offer. One with free postage, 1 where you can pick up instore

fix it yourself for around £5? its very easy and remember youtube is the key
Unless he has a BGA rework station lying around his house, the heat gun fix has varying degrees of success. I've fixed loads for friends and family that way, and had fixes last from 2 hours to 1 and a half years. One is still going now, at 1 year 9 months :)

There are local repair companies that will offer the rework / reballing service, but also beware, some of them will just use the heat gun trick. If they don't guarantee their work, it's more than likely the heat gun fix. As I said above, this has varying lengths of success, but the RROD will always come back, it's just a matter of when.
