150k mileage on a honda civic 2006

not a lot of miles tbh.

christ me and my old man both manage well north of 1000 miles a week. albeit mines is in a taxi and his is blatting over scotland as a electrical engineer but plenty people do silly miles these days

but as for the OP as long as the car has decent history and has been well looked after(which it will most likely its been a rep car and has been replaced at 5 yr old) i wouldnt expect any problems with it.

as previously stated it will have most likely led a motorway munching lifestyle. mileage is nothing these days as long as a car is looked after. one of our octavias is now fast approaching 500k miles with only a replacement gearbox and turbo added to the consumables like clutches filters bushes etc.

i've seen 14k-40k mileage with same spec but they cost like £6.5k..i could use that money to buy a new laptop.
yep :) true if history is good i think its worth it.

b) No warranty company will go near you.

Won't need one. Engine's are bomb proof, and no turbos/DMFs etc. What else is there that might need replacing? Suspension parts? Can't be that expensive.

150k is peanuts for the current shape Civic. Even better if its had a some signs of suspension replacement during that time.

BUT if you can pick one up from a dealer for £4,750, I can guarantee you that you can pick a direct car from a BCA/Manheim auction that's a year newer for same price. Don't forget that companies dump company car stock around the 3 year mark as the leasing deal runs out. If you have a £6k budget, I'd be going direct to BCA on the Black Horse day.

I'd just check the condition of it, and if it's still nice I'd buy it over the lower milage one.

150k is nothing imho... If you can save a couple of quid then do it. Lower mileage example is no guarantee it's 100% fine...

I was talking about high mileage in general not that specific car, a point that was obvious by the fact I also mentioned residuals which of course are irrelevent on a car that costs nothing in the first place.

General comments on warranties on cars in a specific thread about a civic? That makes sense. ...

£5k also isn't nothing.

You would be mental to pay that price for that car.
Not because of any real mechanical concerns, but you will get nothing at all back for it when you want to change, its a dead end for you with no value.
Find a different example for the sake of your wallet.

But if you keep it 4 years and flog it for a grand it's cost you less than £1k a year in depreciation. Thats good value for an 06 Civic.

Whats the difference between spending 3k more and getting 4k back when you sell it and buying that and getting a grand back?

tbh sometimes your better buying something like this.

as long as its been looked after it will run and run and run

at least you know it wont have been clocked - its more common than you think. just give it a thorough check make sure everythings running as it should etc service history is up to scratch etc. might be worth getting a full on rac/aa check on the car for added piece of mind.

but if its an honest car with nothing hidden you cant go wrong :)

Why would he need to?

The first 1.8 litre Vtec honda I put in to autotrader comes up with a 2006 car, with 50,000 less miles and £20 cheaper.

£500 more buys him a car with 70,000 miles.

£600 buys him a car with 24,000 miles, all 2006 cars.

some of them dont have sat nav, some of them dont have xenons, for the sake of all those miles, I wouldnt care.

In this case, if he looked around a bit, he saves himself a whole load of future hassle.
