Hi guys, I'm hoping someone with a 2500k and Akasa Venom with Viper might be able to clarify some temps for me.

I've done a modest OC on an msi-p67-gd65 to 4ghz, left the v-core on auto (cpuz reads 1.208 while in P95).

When idling the temps hover from 32-35 and when blending they hover around 50-56.

Are the temps a little high? Additionally, in bios the cpu temp reads far higher than in any temperature monitor in Windows; bios says 46 degrees :/

This is with MX-4 paste, should I think about reseating the cooler?

-EDIT- also, I just noticed that it's not downclocking at all, I've still got EIST, turbo etc all enabled :/

How have you applied the MX-4?

I've a Venom, and I've never been entirely convinced as to the best way to apply the TIM.

At the moment I've gone with a thin layer just on the CPU top, then pop on the cooler.

Mines running a i5 750 at 3.3ghz, but turbo'ing up to 3.8ghz with a 24x multiplier (on one core, of course). 1.15v Core voltage - Idles at around 25-28c, and peaks at 55c after 30 odd runs of IBT (4 threads, high). Pretty similar with Prime - probably even less.

Cheers,

Rich

I applied 2 lines to the heatsink and popped it in place, hoping the pressure would spread it evenly, but I'm not sure this was the best method.

I might take it off tomorrow and reapply with a thin layer on the CPU as you've done and compare temps as I'm not 100% sure they're right, I'm not worred about them, just seem a little higher than what others report on this CPU.

Let me know how you get on - there's a thread from away back about direct heat pipes, with a link to a guide.

Found the guide:

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.p...sk=view&id=170&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=5

Might be of some use.

To be honest, I've had the urge for a while to get a Megahalems (or maybe a silver arrow/D14) - the Megahalems might not be much of a step up, but I'll be a bit happier knowing that the thermal paste is in the right place! Plus it'll match my silver case...

Cheers,
Rich

Ah cheers,

It's actually that guide that I copied for the two lines I applied :P

I think I may have put a little too much on though, I'll take it off tomorrow if I get chance and take a look, reapply and see if there's any difference in temps.

I'll post back with how I get on.

Akasa venom, 2500k @ 4Ghz, Asus p8p67, Arctic silver tim.

Idle (Well, web browsing, actually) temps are same as yours. 32 to 36 C.

Prime'd, also around the same as yours. Tops around 57C (ish).

I've seen a few threads on temps with this hardware. Seems to be a 50/50 split. Some folks get 28C idle. Others 32-35ish. Thread contributors tend to say 32 to 35 is nothing much to be concerned about.

I'd like to see my temps drop a bit but I don't think they are harmfull as they are.

Edit: Vcore is set at 1.2v

i want a similar mild overclock like yours 4ghz, did you only touch vcore? or any other settings as well?

if you could have a look in your bios and post what you changed, that would be great.

I'm a noob at overclocking. I just chose this very moderate setting to ensure I didn't damage anything or have to spend a lot of time tweaking. It is however perfectly stable in prime and when gaming.I might even try dropping the vcore down a little to see if it improves temps. But I'm sure the experienced overclockers here could tell you a better way.

Vcore manual 1.2v
bclk 100
multi 40

That was it for the cpu.

same here, i just want something simple and doesnt take days of tweaking, i dont know if i can be bothered priming, i might just leave the cpu at stockk for now, i only use it for mild gaming and movies.
