My EVO X selected as an R&D car by Forge Motorsport

Something else that I really like and it might be bit grandad and slippers is the new 5.0l Jaguar XKR, plenty of power, gorgeous looks, epic sound, but could I live with the AUTO box, they are now just slipping under 50k but I don't really want to go past my upper limit of 45k.

Im driving one tomorrow :) ill try to give an unbiased opinion but thet are very impressive bits of kit and that engine is something else. Ian Callum has a rather nice red one with the black pack, looks something else in the flesh, the old slipper image is hopefully going.

Not got a clue m8, I've seena rumoured 998 Turbo I think, looks gorgeous.

Its a shame 997 Turbo PDK aint a bit older, but those are well out of my price range if I keep finance sub £300 a month.
.

Just checked.

New 911 codenamed "991" is due "before" Autumn this year.

Turbo and GT3 are usually around a year later so yeah new GT3 and Turbo Next year.

Next GT3 will have the 4L engine and will be close if not over 500bhp I suspect and rumours doing the rounds are engine position might move forward into a cabin a bit (no rear seats on a GT 911) but I struggle to believe this.

Yeah. Like 850BHP :p.

EVO X's use FP blacks for high power, think region of 600-700BHP and even at that level they have like 150lb/ft at 3000rpm, 200lbft by 4000rpm, they don't start spooling until 5000rpm and then its literally warp speed, you basically have a 2500rpm usable RPM.

They are racers / 1/4 mile cars at that power level, not everyday usable cars with good power across the range and require very high upkeep.

If I tuned an EVO max I'd go would be FP Red to max of 550BHP as they are spooled by 3300rpm and peak torque by 4500rpm which is acceptable or the FP green for 500BHP max limit as that spools very similar to stock turbo. But over 500BHP you make sacrifices, over 600BHP its no longer really an everyday car.

Would love to hear your feedback mate, particular on the automatic and what modes it has and how the auto feels, performs. Can you also check to see if the AUTO will actually let you hold onto a gear as well, so say put it in 2nd or 3rd boot it and see if it holds that gear without kicking down or changing up by itself when in manual mode.

I remember driving a 335D once, put it in manual mode, put it in 3rd, booted it and it kicked down, I was like I am in manual mode, why is the car still trying to kick down, the salesman simply said thats just how they are.

Be good to hear your thoughts on the AUTO and its handling. I don't see any issues with the power, its got a 5.0l V8, though would be good to know if it actually feels fast/torquy? :D

Your comments remind me of the X3 I drove before the 2.0d. I really didnt have a clue what the box was gonna do. Im also taking an X5 and X6 out in 3L flavour so that would compare better with the 335d you tried. a lot of the cars will be the same ZF 6 speed box, i read someone on pistonheads finding the XFR also a bit keen to upchange so ill try to check that out.... if I can drive it steady enough, usually we're flat out :p

I'm mid 30's , own a new XKR and love it , so I'll be interested in your review.

I havent got much time at the moment to write so ill do a post later on some of the cars I drove.

I got an hour in the XFR and 30mins in the XKR (convertible)yesterday, rural Warwickshire and sections on M40, unfortunatley wet and greasy roads though :D. The S2000 was a bike in a car body, but now thats only in terms of noise..... the XFR and XKR actually go like one. Gob smacking amount of power coupled with composure. Very impressed. bl5150 you have a very impressive car.

You registered to tell us how old you are? :p

I thought the reason I mentioned my age would be obvious seeing as the quote I used mentioned the "old slipper image"

I registered because I was looking for a particular review of my car and stumbled onto this thread and thought I may be able to add something to the discussion and post some of my detailed comparisions of the XKR to other GTs. With that sort of sarcastic welcome I think I'll just keep to myself.

And yes Gibbo - my car is a 2010 5L.

Ciao

Thats good to hear and just as relevant for me to take anything away from your comments as to what you can read into mine. Of course Im not a potential buyer so have different view of the cars requirements to actual customers.

The car seems capable of continent consuming travel with no effort whatso every :D
