I switched on my pc one day and upon logging on I am asked to activate my vista. it says that thisual is not genuine and I am to either type my long lost product code or go online and buy vista. I cant go into windows to use jelly bean. what can I do?

Will it let you get into Safe Mode? A bit of a long shot but worth a try.

You can also put your HDD in another PC and use Magical Jelly Bean on it to find the Product Key.

What do you mean by long lost product code? Either it should be on the side of your machine/bottom of the laptop or if you have retail you should have a booklet witht he serial in it.

SiriusB once again...thanks for having a lot of common sense. Plese don't be offended but why else would I ask? I built my PC myself and bought OEM Vista (an Upgrade version which worked as a clean install) and now it's asking me to do that for some strange reason. Safe mode does the same thing. I will try putting the HDD in another machine.

OMG this is getting annoying now...I just got a new Vista code and typed it in. After it has taken it got stuck on about the 95% area (there were not actual number though) and I left it for a minute. It hybernated for some reason and then it wouldn't take it again! It says "Invalid Data"

Ok the source wasn't very good...it was a Dell copy but with the right sticker. However it was about 2 years ago (bought it between Vista coming out and before 7)
