Looking for a second car...

Hi guys,

As you may have already realised, I'm looking for another car. Currently I have a Seat Ibiza mk3 1.4 and I'm simply becoming bored of it. I'm looking for a car that has a bigger engine (similar to a Saxo VTR size), has fairly good fuel consumption, is reliable, good looking (not boy racer/chav looking but close) and just generally a good car.
My friend recommended i not buy a corsa as I'm interested in a friends sxi+(black, twin exhaust, nice alloys, small spoiler and slightly tinted windows). Its not over the top but racer but between boring and racer (what I'm looking for). The only problem is she will only accept a minimum of £3000 for it and my budget is a maximum of £2500.
I've looked into some saxo vtr's but my mate who has one suggests I don't buy one as he's had many problems with his. He suggests a fiesta zetec s but they are way to expensive for me as I'm doing my national pilots license which is costing quite a lot.
If you guys could help that would be great.

Thanks,
Jonny

Hmmm, whilst VTRs are quick cars they undoubtably chavvy.

What about something like a MK1 MX5, can be got for around £1000-£1500 depdns if you go for a 1.6 or 1.8 and are proabably the most fun car for the cash and aren't expensive to run.

Don't really have the same image though.

Given enough Halfords gift cards, it wouldn't be too hard to get the same image...

I suspect the cost of keeping one of these going is outside of the OP's budget.

You're probably right, but if it stops him getting a Corsa it'll be a worthwhile post (jking) :p:D

A Corsa 'SXi+' will be worse and more boring than your Ibiza.

Not if it is a 1.8 as these replaced the SRI at the end of life if you are talking 05 or earlier.

However, chance of this is so low then yer it is probably a 1.2. You could pick up a MKIV Astra SRI 1.8 in this budget though and at this end of the market it would be a reasonable choice given the alternatives, cheap to run and insure, quick enough (quicker than a VTR or comparrable focus 1.6/1.8).

There are loads of 172's about but not in a low low budget. I suggest a Saxo VTR would be ideal.

Or a Citroen C2 GT/VTR?

Just find a mint standard Saxo VTR. They are great cheap fun cars, and to be honest a nice standard mint mk1 has gone past the point of chav car status now anyway. All the barried ones are heading for scrap yards now due to being thrashed and poorly maintained.

Looks no more chav than any little hot hatch IMO.

I think that car actually looks pretty ok, just don't lower it and fit a fart can exhaust and nobody will think your a chav, well unless you drive with the fog lights on 24/7, that's usually a good way of spotting a chav in a hatch.

It is actually extensively modified that car, just not cosmetically. The way they should be

Clio 172 :)

No it isn't...

*looks at £1000 of Clio 172 parts purchased this month*

..Ok, maybe it is.

How so? it looks standard height/etc, though I cannot see from the pic if its got a noisemaker exhaust, are we talking engine swap?

Just a few mods :) 160bhp, cams, manifold, induction, btb exhaust, Group N bilsteins and bushes, 4 pot brakes, stripped out, kevlar cobra seats, 3" harnesses, quickshift etc. Bloody missed that car

Love the VTS alloys ^^. Makes me miss my VTR and VTS :( Still changed the VTS for a 172 so wasn't all bad.....looks out window......sees current Astra :/:/ /crys profusely
