I recently purchased a new monitor which is a bigger resolution than my previous, however my current graphics card seems to be struggling with games. Specificly i play WoW and plan on getting most of the new releases coming out next month (Dragon age, Crysis 2, Shogun to name a few.) My current card is a ATi 5870 but i have had many problems with it and idealy would like to stick to Nvidia. My motherboard is SLI compatible (Not Xfire) and i have acres of room in my case so niether of these would be a problem. Also i do like to stream games/record on Xfire so if it would be able to do this comfortably too would be ideal.

My budget is £400 max.

Current Spec:

ASUS P5n-T Duluxe
Intel Q6600 3.5 ghz
ATI 5870
PSU 750w

After reading quite a few threads im still unsure what to use my money on to upgrade, i was thinking possibly Nvidia 480 SLI / Nvidia 560 SLI

I would greatly appreciate your input as im sure you know more than me. :D

GTX480 SLI seems a no brainer for the price.

But it depends whether you have an 850W+ PSU and good air flow in your case (preferably a fan blowing on top of the cards).

If not then a single GTX580 would be better for you.

Oh my PSU is 750w forogot to add :).

Is that not big enough for 480 SLI? Also my case has very good airflow so im not worried about that.

750W is not enough for SLI 480 unfortunately :(

You can go SLI 470 or get a GTX580/570. If your resolution was lower I would have suggested the 560ti SLI but 1gb is not enough for your resolution.

If you get sli does it only use the VRAM from one card? I thought if you have SLI it would be 2x 1gb

No it only uses the VRAM form one card. So when a dual card like an ATI 5970 says its 2gb when really it only has 1gb of usable VRAM.

Cheapest one possible. 1.5gb will be fine for the majority of games, except the odd game like Metro 2033 and Crysis.

The stock cooler is great as well.

Im a bit worried about getting the cheapest one since last time i did this i had lots of problems with the card (my old 5870.)

I have had Gainward cards before and i have never had any problems so i might go for that one. Was also looking at the this. Is it worth the extra?
