Insurance: Just tried getting a Classic quote!

What makes it a banger? I'm curious.

He just means cheap old car, and (along with myself) is no doubt confused as to why a classic policy would cover what is basically just an old car, rather than a "classic" one. I am not sure what the defnition of classic is though, so who am i to comment!

Result on the price. :)

The fact its 150 quid.

£180 actually. :p

See what you mean, but just because I bought it for pennies doesn't mean it's all bad. Admittedly, it was a total shed when I got it but I've made something pretty nice out of it now.

Just haven't really updated on here much as it's an old Rover and most people don't give a **** :p

banger [ˈbæŋə]
n Brit
1. (Cookery) Slang a sausage
2. (Engineering / Automotive Engineering) Informal
a. an old decrepit car
b. (as modifier) banger racing
3. a type of firework that explodes loudly

I think banger is being used incorrectly here. Old does not equal banger. I think a 1998 600-series rover might be pushing it though :p

Classic insurance got my XJS down from £800 to insure to about £350.

Trying to insure my Z28 Camaro through normal insurance would have been a total pain because half the online forms don't even have the model listed.

1954 Ford Pop - standard - £155 fully comp with other vehicles included & commuting - Lancaster

1967 Ford Anglia - all mods declared & commuting - £155 fully comp - Adrian Flux

1927 Ford T - hotrodded - all mods declared & commuting - £220 fully comp - Adrian Flux

I generally don't like Adrian Flux because of the horror stories so I might well use someone else next time, but they are generally quite flexible when it comes to modified classics. Mileage is generally 5000-6000 miles.

It was £150 and required extensive work?

It was fine to potter about in for pennies, but little faults annoy me. Things like a slightly slipping clutch. :p

Things done:

- Leather was a bit worn, so brought it back to life. £5
- Cleaned out the interior properly, removed random boot marks and mud from under dash etc. £Free
- Rewired behind the stereo so speakers work correctly. £Free
- Fixed small windscreen leak causing misting up. £4
- Rewired automatically extending aerial to work properly. £Free
- Wired the stereo to the headlight stalk to the screen auto-dims when they're on. £Free
- Fitted the Honda Accord puddle lights to each door (perfect fit) £5
- Rewired alarm and door switches to work correctly. £5
- Fitted new clutch. £65
- Changed all fluids and replaced all hose clips. £25
- 4 part-worn tyres. £80
- Replaced a couple of ball joints and bushed I had sat around. £Free
- Cleaned out throttle body and rebuilt, also replaced fuel filter. £5
- Spark plugs replaced with OEM items. £5
- Turbocharger wastegate adjusted to 11.7psi. £Free
- Boost gauge fitted. £Free
- New dashboard lights and dial lights fitted. £Free
- New front brake pads. £15
- Replaced ABS sensor. £15
- Mongoose Stainless Steel exhaust. £60
- Decat (kept cat for MOT). £Free
- Rebuilt brake calipers at the rear. £Free
- Reset the clutch pedal adjustment to give a perfect 'bite'. £Free
- The clutch slave cylinder didn't like the above and exploded. Replaced this too. £28

The above cost about £300, so for less than £500 it's pretty damn good. :)

A little annoying the bits needed to make it 'perfect' cost more than the car, but then again that's a given with older cars.

All of the above were optional, the clutch would have been fine, the tyres not illegal, exhaust wasn't too bad etc etc. Just don't like driving around in a shed after my last car!

I love classic car policies :D

At 21 I can insure a 3.5 V8 Range Rover with no no claims and offroad cover fully comp for 10k miles for £602. Result :D

Result on the price there. I think a 620ti is pretty much the best way you could spend £180, personally I'd prefer it over an old Mondeo anyway.

Not sure why people are happy to insure their main car under classic? No NCB growth is hardly worth singing and dancing about.
