im gonna get into iRacing see whats its like for a month but im after a steering wheel cos the 360 control pad is not up to scratch. My budget is about £80.

I so want the G25 but i cannot raise the funds at the mo

With iRacing do i have to have a clutch?

Any input would be sweet, cheers

My next wheel will be the Fanatec GT2.

It aint cheap, but if you are serious about your racers - which if you are gonna be apying a monthly fee to iracing i presume you are it is worth it imo. Sack off the gearbox (you still have flappy paddles) and get the standard pedals - not the aluminium ones with force feedback) and it comes in around the 300 quid mark.

But having had a go on it, it puts my wheel to shame.

If you want the all singing all dancing one however you need to add another 100 quid to that.

The guy above is right however, placement is key. You do not necessarily need a gameframe or such like, but a decent mount on a computer desk or what not is critical. I personally have never got on with a lap mount and if it was that or nothing, i would not bother.

If however 80 quid really is your limit (I always say i have a limit, then "rearrange" my debts and then ignore it ;) ) but if it really is your limit, then, no a clutch is not essential on iracing there is an auto clutch aid you can enable.

The driving force GT is a capable wheel, and you could always upgrade it in the future with an aftermarket set of pedals with a clutch if you wanted - I am fairly sure you can do that on the pc but do research that 1st..

Thanks guys. Think I'm gonna go for DFGT but it seems there are low on stock everywhere. Prefer brand new than second hand. Only a brief search like, ill look later

Fanatec wheels are very well made and have belt driven force feedback which is quieter than gear based force feedback. Sadly though it seems a bit of a lottery price wise as the prices fluctuate all the time with batches. Their clubsport pedals are also wicked. if you decide that online racing is something that you are going to take up then the fanatec wheel is a good investment, but it's gonna cost around £300.

I don't know why but looking around the DFGT seems to have gone up in price since I bought mine last year for £59.99

For the £80 mark its got to be the Driving force GT. I owned one for a few months, but realised it was was not up to scratch. Purely because of the pedals, which have no resistance and feel quite flimsy. I was playing iRacing like yourself and they didnt cut it. There is little difference between the DFGT and G25 in the wheel though IMO. The G25's force feedback is a little smoother and stronger.

However, for the price the DFGT is that they are excellent. Just bear in mind the pedals are rubbish compared to G25/G27 and Fanatecs (But they are 150% more expensive so you cant really fault the DFGT!)

I used to own a g25 ended up selling it for 50 quid I really needed the money I regret it now like, Wish I didnt sell it but life goes on. Maybe you could try the logitech gran turismo wheel

To sort the pedals out, all you have to do is open the pedal assembly up, open the internal springs a bit more to create more resistance, and cable tie them to the pedals. That made a huge difference for me.

And for the record the pedals of all sub £100 wheels are average.

its such a shame that i can t find a top quality wheel for sub £100, anyone find these over priced or is it just me?

I wouldn't say they're overpriced really, things like the G25/27 are very well build pieces of equipment and imo worth the price (I paid ~£170 for my G25 a few years ago now), and that's not even a 'top quality' wheel, that category belongs to the Frex and ECCI, now those might be overpriced, Frex is ~£1000 iirc and the ECCI is $2500 I think?

On the subject of Fanatec, personally I'd be very wary, the products are great (well, wheels and clubsport pedals, heard the normal pedals a bit 'meh') but there seem to be question marks over both quality control and customer service, maybe exaggerated due to people only posting about problems rather than good service but it seems more than I'd expect...

Back on topic I'd say the DFGT is a good bet, lots of people prefer the actual wheel to the G25 wheel, but it does fall down on the paddles and pedals from all accounts, but for a starter wheel it's perfectly adequate.

I think the price went up cos of GT5, I'm stuck really between DFGT and Thrustmaster F430

I went for the F430 (The full stand version). It offered the best package, no need for a wheel stand etc. It looks great and has made racing games a hell of a lot better. Only downside is the lack of force feedback. But for a steering wheel, complete with it's own stand, pedals and a paddle shift gear change, it's fantastic.

Though, if I did have a lot more to spend on a wheel, I end up with the G27 + wheel stand pro or the fanatec.
