Hey guys.

Im looking at renting a cottage/lodge or whatever in the Lake District for this summer.

Was just wondering where the best place to look for them is as there seems to be so so many websites and was wandering if anyone has any experience?

Part of 10, at the start of August :)

Cheers,
Dan

Cumbrian Cottages.

I used them and was very happy with the service and the cottage!

Same here. We've used them for years and they're quality. In fact we booked with them last night to go to near Coniston in early March. :D

Can you give a bit info on what you're looking for exactly?

I have holiday accommodation just on the edge of the Lakes (not big enough for a party of 10, sorry) and know quite a few other owners. My day job is also working in the tourism industry in Cumbria.

If you could give an indication of what area you are looking at, and what budget you have in mind, then I might be able to help.

Also, would your party need to be all under the one roof necessarily? For instance, I know of a lovely property near Windermere that sleeps 8, but the owner does have another nearby that can accommodate 6. But these two are at the high end luxury end of the market, so you'd be looking at circa £3k for the larger of the two in peak season (August). You might just prefer to be in a bothy which you could get at a small fraction of that...

Lakes Cottage Holidays - I've used them for years and never had a problem; in fact, they have always been incredibly helpful. I believe that they developed out of Cumbrian Cottages which I have also used in the past and which has become too large, commercial and impersonal :(

However, if you are taking a party of ten, especially young people, they may be somewhat concerned about the possibility of damage.

we used cumbrian cottages as well, no problems with them

we have stayed right in keswick, in borrowdale (rosthwaite, really nice and easy walking very close by but still close enough to keswick) and langdale (again, easy access to the pikes but with a large town close by)

I'm also looking to do the same thing, but only with 4 people. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

I stayed in a chalet at the Patterdale Hall Estate and found it to be very pleasant, everything was to a suitable standard and the staff were helpful. The chalets have a double and a twin, so their suitability would depend on how the party is made up. They do have larger accommodation, however.

I chose this particular place due to it's close proximity to Helvellyn, but there is also Ulswater very close by in case you prefer the water based activities.

Not wanting to Hijack the thread but it beat starting a new one on similar line. Any recommendation for companies that deal with the Yorkshire Dales, specifically Hawes area ?

....or do these companies cover that too ?

Our place sleeps 4 so if you'd like details, just let me know. Alternatively, stick ".com" on to the end of my handle here and all will be revealed. ;)

It's also quite handy for the Dales, Talon, as it's a short distance to either National Park from Kendal. But if you specifically wanted Hawes, I'm sure Dales Holiday Cottages (taken over by Hoseasons a while back) ought to be able to help you out.
