Is it really worth it with the current state of pc gaming in general and the graphics market.

Has anyone moved from 5850/5870>6950/6970 and did you think it was worth the extra, were the performance gains good

If it makes any odds my res is 1920x1080 and i'm thinking possible upgrade but keep umming and arghing

thanx for that, seems like it only really pulls ahead by a lot in the dx 11 games everything else imo is just a mediocre improvement,

maybe now is the time to dabble in x fire and see what i make of it.

*edit* looking at that site and changing it to 5850 cf vs 6950 looks like 5850CF give it a good kick in the nuts for much less cost.

The jump from a stock 5850 (especially an overclocked one) to a stock 6950 / 70 doesn't really look to be worth it, though user experience will mean more than a chart. Personally I'd probably just drop another 5850 in. You'll have near to a 5970 performance for little outlay.

Have they managed to sort out all the x fire driver problems that they've had, which drivers are the best for x fire.

saying that i've never had a single problem with any driver since 10.2 apart from the one where they messed up the colour temp lol

I can only speak from having had a 4870X2. For me in all but one or two titles (which may have been down to the same game engine or some other variable), it has been a good experience. I'd go CF gain, let's put it that way. I expect someone that has had 5850CF will drop in later. :)

sounds daft but a corsair HX750 will be fine for a [email protected] and 5850CF will it not

I went from a 5850 to a 6950 and I can honestly say it was worth it ;)

I can now max out BC2 @ 6004*1080! considering getting another to fully max out metro at that resolution :)

Put a MSI 5850 Frozer ll in with my existing Asus yesterday and i have had nothing but problems. Benchmarks run fine but as soon as i start a game up it either locks up and then BSOD's or the gameplay is stuttery as hell. Working my way back through the drivers at the moment but it's looking increasingly likely that i will DSR the MSI 5850. Really can't be doing with messing around like this. With a single card i had no problems at all with any of the drivers. At this stage i don't know if it's a driver problem or the card itself.

Maybe you are overlooking a setting or something you need to do ? i thought the 5 series had none of the problems that plagued the 4 series ?

Are they the same clock speed ? anyway must be okay right as there's loads of people running 5770cf and 5850 cf with no issues at all ?

Also don't they say you should get the exact same cards ?

5850 Cf smashes a 6970 right ? http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/303?vs=292 makes me wonder why people go for £200 6950's even when they flash to 6970's ?

Because crossfire can be annoying at times.

When it works properly & a game makes use of both cards it's excellent vfm.

When it doesn't & there's not a proper CAP profile for a game, or one that induces negative scaling, it's a royal pain in the butt.

I found 10.5a hotfix & 10.10e to be the best drivers when I was running crossfire.

Anything after 10.10e can cause 100% load on the 2nd gpu on some systems.

Can't check with 11.2 as I'm on a single card now.

I had the same thought not long ago, just looking at the benchmarks its not worth it at all. I dont want to spend money on old tech either so im not going to crossfire 5850's, in the end i decided to wait until TSMC sorts out their 28?nm process and we get some real next gen stuff from both camps.
