Oh dear, it appears im in a sticky situation....

My best fiend is getting married and we booked some flights to Atlanta for a brokeback road trip. cost 1k for two return flights. flying in July. paid on credit card and all gone through last week. He was hit with a body blow today when his company axed his bonus due in March, which was 4k. it had all been agreed and has happened each and every year he has worked. yesterday his company used small print in the contract to withhold it as a cost cutting exercise. He intended to fund his American trip and some of the wedding costs with this and now America is a no go.

he contacted BA and they said the flights are non refundable, although the taxes would be after the event. Im still inclined to go on my own, but for my now very stressed best mate its not even an option to fund a 10 day trip as well as flights.

I need to try and worm my way out, before i call the creditcard company anyone have any pearls of wisdom?

*no doubt the do gooders will say, you agreed to there terms suck it up, this is true and im well aware and still happy to go on my tod, but i have a an awkward situation with a friend who is responsible for £500 on my credit card*

get another mate

that's an option, but still £180 to change the two flights. Also there are not that many people i would want to spend that time with, the 4 or 5 i have mentioned to can't, its harder now, we are all early 30's with houses and kids

transfer to someone else, find a mate who doesn't budget based on bonus payments and can afford to pay for the ticket and then go have fun :)

This is your mates problem financially - he owes you £500. Whether he can claim back after the event is not your problem right now.

Take his £500 - you shouldnt pay for it - and claim the taxes back when you can. Go on your own.

tell the credit card company?

1 website crashed and i did not press 'complete' button ( i was just researching prices)
2 my friend used my creitcard to book when i had not agreed?

*worm*

he will pay for it, we have been best mates for 18 years, i have no doubts about that. It's also his fault, but i will do all i can do to get out of it for him.
