Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

A quicker DA? If you want a quicker game go play an Action RPG which is essentially what this game has turned into, going by gameplay trailers. I'm reserving final judgement till i've played the demo but it looks like a massively dumbed down pale shadow of the original DA with no depth to combat at all.

Everything I have seen points to the opposite. The faster animations and cross-class combo system looks like it will add far more depth to the slow and dull shuffle/swing/shuffle combat that Origins had. That being said, I've no doubt that if you stick the game on Casual that you can play it like an Action RPG as that was true of Origins.

Akka STREAMLINING , Streamlining to make it easier for Console Derps!

How do faster animations equal streamlining, or make it easier for anyone? Streamlining would be removing features (such as stats or abilities in an RPG) but the videos clearly show that is not the case.

I'm sure there are people who tried that hard with tactics they could do the same on Nightmare too. Point is DA wasn't designed to be an action RPG, DA2 specifically said it was designed to let you play that way if you wanted, which means it won't be all that difficult or even properly adapted to play strategically.

Removing stats or abilities can be streamlining or dumbing down, depending on the scale and the game. Turning this game towards a button bashing action RPG is the latter, especially considering what it was in DA.

Difficulty is subjective and I don't see how you can judge it based on a few demo videos played on Casual or Normal. The devs say that Nightmare has been made harder in DA2, but I didn't play above Hard in Origins so I have no idea what that would be like. No doubt some people will claim it is still too easy and that they finished the game in half an hour, but whatever.

Button bashing? I honestly think you have been watching different videos to me (talking about PC version here.) It works like Origins did; click mouse button start the auto attack and select abilities (which have cooldowns and require stamina/mana) from the bar while pausing as needed.

Combat sounds like it could get annoying with all that "sching, schinging" and the over the top speed of the sword strikes looks rather silly too. Still, your average teenage console gamer will probably be peeing their pants watching it. ;) And that's what matters to Bioware, and EA...

Secretly, I think they must be heartily sick of Baldur's Gate 2 rearing its ugly head all time. No matter what they do, a ten year old game still shoved in their faces. It does make me chuckle. :D

Personally I am really liking the way this game looks. I played Origins and Awakening to death and still love them, this still to me at least looks like Dragon Age so its got my vote. I love the minimalistic UI too.

The combat is not really any different from DA:O which is good imo. The only consolitis I've seen so far is the menus/interface etc, although nowhere near as bad as games like Oblivion were. The dialogue wheel looks fine, but whether the chioces you can make are still semi-fake or not remains to be seen.

It'll be an okay game I think, worth a purchase if I find it cheap enough. But I'm not really happy with the way BioWare are heading with their rpgs in general though...

Quite looking forward to this. I loved DA:O and DAO:A but I did find the combat a bit tedious and slow after a while. I'll be trying both the PC and the PS3 demo and making my choice from there. If the combat's faster paced and more action orientated on the PS3 then that'll be where my money's heading :)

I am personally looking forward to this and the new combat system, I am currently finishing off DA:Awakenings and have a lvl 32 dalish elf rogue. I now have more abilities than I need and know how to work into an effective group, and this is the same across all members of my party. You end up having to choose from about 20 abilities for each party member which is 80 for the entire group. I only end up using a few, and often forget what some do, until I take the time to remind myself.

Don't get me wrong I love the game but the character abilities have become to bloated by the time you are at this level. Maybe a better UI would have helped (separate prominent toolbar for sustained abilities and side bar for salves and potions for example) but I do think that the combat abilities could do with an overhaul.

Whether DA2 nails it remains to be seen.

I for one will be wacking this on the hardest difficulty and using pause type gameplay. Personal preference.

That will always be the case, but if you are designing the game to basically play out like an action RPG on Normal that will still have repurcussions on higher difficulties. Like i said i'll wait for the demo for final judgement but i can't see myself preordering this like i did with DA. I'll probably pick it up cheap later on. Same can be said for TES Skyrim which is looking more and more **** every time they release info.

I was watching the 2 gameplay trailers posted earlier. You know, the ones where your allies boobs are freakin' huge in the first video and considerably less 'Lara Croft' in the second video. The combat seemed to go along the lines of 'run in, spam buttons, eventually get surrounded by a swarm of cannon fodder enemies, AoE and somehow kill everything in 1 shot'. The ogre didn't seem to need any special tactics either, it was just more of the same.

Not a fan of the over the top melee anims and not being able to be a dwarf, but if it plays similar to DA1 i'm sure i'll get over it. Some of the spell effects look nice though.

Doesn't look that impressive, looks like a streamlined DA

lol

a) the gfx actually seem worse than Da1.

b) notice how in combat 90% of the time the mouse cursor is just sat still or moving in the centre, basically just watching them auto attack :/
