Its quite hard to build a low spec pc as I am thinking of myself and thinking hmmm i want faster!

Well, with the money saved with the AMD build you could always up the Athlon to a Phenom II and still come in under, or around what you originally intended to spend. If indeed your parents needed the extra grunt. But for a simple home machine for parents to email and web browse, the Athlon II should be grand.

The AMD Phenom II X4 840 is only another 40 odd quid for example. It's based on Deneb just without the L3 cache. But it's quad core and clocked higher as standard so might be a better choice of CPU if you need more grunt and don't need or want a black edition to clock and still want a cheap CPU.

That i3 bundle added to the monitor and 1 KB/Mouse set ends up about £25 cheaper too.

The HDD is better than the Samsung in the spec I put together as well. Add to that the 12 month warranty and support, it's much better deal. However with the monitor, keyboard set and a copy of Windows it comes in at £514. Whereas what I spec'd would be £450 with Windows. But no 12 month warrant from OCuK (only on parts) and only forum support from forum users.

Edit: Revision with the better RAM greavsey linked to and the HDD from one of the bundles mame linked too. With Windows as well, incase it's needed.

Would probably make more sense to go with the AMD if they're only using it for the interweb.
Not sure what you'd get out of the x2 250 but the i3 540 should easily do 4 GHz but with the Mobo it ends up an extra £70.
On the flip side that could then help it last many more years.
Either one should be enough :)
