hello everyone

has anyone used any of these sites. their reviews are absolutely atrocious. I was looking to book flights and room only. Should i go ahead and take a chance since their prices are pretty good.
Please share your experiences and thoughts.

thanks.

Hi

I have found Expedia, Thomas Cook etc to be organisation who only look to shift seats and rooms and forget that their customers are human beings.

I have been using Trailfinders to do my holiday bookings for the past 5 years, given them your requirements and they will hunt down some great deals for you

Expedia are fine, I only ever DIY I would not trust a travel agent.

As long as you research the hotel, there is very little that could go wrong.

Nothing wrong with Expedia for the countless number of times I have used them.
I do sometimes find things cheaper elsewhere though like Opodo for flights and booking.com for hotels etc.

@Diesel - true. the problem is when they make a mistake and then you try and contact them which can be a bloody nightmare from what ive read.

Anyway i think if i just read reviews i will never go anywhere.I'm pretty sure thousands go without problems. will give trailfinders a try and see what their prices are like and then i will try expedia. thanks for quick responses.

The three times I went tot he US I used Expedia and had no issues at all.

The two times I have been to Japan were with Thomas Cook and they couldn't have given better levels of service (particularly as the second trip coincided with the volcanic issues last year which meant we had an unexpected extension ...)

One really important thing to consider is when booking through a third party such as Expedia, you are not booking directly with the hotel, and there are sneaky little savings they can make without you being completely aware, such as a slightly tattier room at the back of the hotel, or maybe not telling you about the hotels website-only packages.

I booked a load of hotels for our honeymoon last year and went directly as most were the same price, or within a few pounds (literally) of the Expedia-type websites. By booking directly, I knew exactly which room type I was getting, and could contact the hotel directly to check any details/preferences.

Importantly, I found that one of the larger and more expensive hotels reduced the price of their rooms as the date of our arrival approached, and because I had booked with them directly with a no-fee cancellation policy, they adjusted my payment without quibbling. We saved hundreds of pounds.

I did the same with hire cars. I hunted high and low for the best deal with various middle-men, and found that the direct approach was best and effectively the same price at the end of the day. And I knew that if I had problems, I would know who to go to to complain and resolve.

daz i asure you the first post is not fake. dont think the second one is either. I have posted in the hardware forum before.have ended up with a hookey copy of windows!
