Hi there,

Wanting to go on a weeks break at the end of June / start of July but cant think of where to go haha!
Could you recommend anywhere? I'm thinking somewhere in southern Europe?

-2 Adults
-£500pp
-Fly from Edinburgh
-Hot climate
-Located near a good beach
-Nice scenery (for exploring :D )

Somebody did suggest Tunisia but I wasn't to sure will all that's been happening down there recently.
Is it ok?

And ofcourse if you can recommend anywhere that isn't in southern Europe that would be cool :)

Any suggestions guys?
Thanks a lot!
Em

What kind of accommodation do you require? This will make a huge difference in prices of where you can go.

Tunisia is horrible. Even when there isn't any trouble.

Is your £500 the total budget including flights, accomodation and spending cash? In which case you may want to look a little closer to home.

I've heard some parts of Ibiza are nice and relatively cheap. Infact, we considered it(albeit with a slightly bigger budget) but the Canary Islands were too tempting again :p Check it out, though.

Ive been to Tunisia and it was nice enough, especially if you like your history as you have Carthage to visit and plenty to see in the Museums and Galleries in Tunis. Also you can visit Tatooine and bag yourself a couple of swamp rats!

But with the recent uprisings I would stay away from North Africa for a while.

Plus there's the colloseum which was one of the highlights. But having been there I honestly couldn't recommend it. The food wasn't great, there is a lot of hassle from locals trying to sell you crap, tons of chavvy tourists on their cheap family package deals, questionable hygiene in restaurants with cats/dogs running around. etc etc.

It's alright-ish. But you could do better.

Malta? We went there last year, we did everything we wanted to do in a week, then got stuck there for another week because of that ******* volcano, but it wasn't the worst place to get stuck abroad! :D

Lanzarote imo, plenty of exploring to be done with lots of natural beauty spots, gorgeous island if you get out of some of the horrible tourist bits. Here's a few photos i have to hand from when i went 18 months ago:

1) Timanfaya national park, volcanic area where they film a lot of sci fi as it looks like the moon surface :D There is a resteraunt at the top of a dorment volcano where they cook the food directly on heat from the volcano.

2) Papagayo beach

4) Abandoned ship near Costa Teguise:

Very good weather being just off the coast of africa, and if you rent a car you can get from one end of the island to the other in an hour or so, plenty of exploring to be done :)

There are far more things than this but these are all I have to hand!

Tom.

Me and my gf have just booked a place in turkey for 10 nights flight and half board for 500quid. The hotel gets good reviews so quite looking forward to it now. We are going on the 13th of july from gatwick though.

Kind of hoping that Turkey will be a bit cheaper for food and drink as it is out of the euro too.

Edit: I remember that resturant when i was younger we went there and they do a little show of droppign a bucket of water down a smaller hole and after a minute it blast upwards.

Lanzerote is great.

Lanzarote is a great shout, mount Timanfaya is pretty amazing. Remember them cooking food over a volcano.

As for Turkey, also a great shout. Me and the lady went at the end of August, had temps consistently of about 34-36 celcius and paid about £550 full board.

some pics for you:
