The fiancée is going to murder me...

I should be putting this money together to buy her a big rock, but I want to play microsoft flight simulator in all it's glory on the tv downstairs

ultimate scenario, an AMD phenom II 1100t hexcore coupled with either a gtx 570 or ati 6970. I can get windows through a friends student HUP. obviously it's all the odds and sods I need inbetween...

is this remotely possible, one in price (may be able to spare a little more thanks to council tax not being paid the next two months) and hardware wise?

I'm chomping at the bit to lay down some dough on some aircraft loving

Done a quad core instead, you should be able to flash to a 6970 :)

wow, brilliant, thanks for the two quotes in speedy time. In your personal opinion, amd or intel?

Hi have a look at this thread first of all although his budget is much higher. Im guessing you are running FSX? It's more CPU dependant than GPU but at that res you will probably need a good card to handle it. A fast CPU, 4GB RAM and a SSD would be a good starting point but the latter is not essential. £600 should get a you nice system I would say. This would be a decent bundle coupled with this and then the rest spent on a GPU. Im not entirely sure what sort of GPU you would need to game at that res but one of the other guys will comment im sure.

2 very nice builds for the budget there RJC.

you can't complain about a nice SB set-up for £600.

And you don't need the cpu cooler if you don't plan to OC, so that might save some money.
(although personally i found the stock heatsink on my 965be to be very loud)

both great but i'd (just) go for the SB set-up

I swear FSX needs loads of cpu power, so have done a build with a faster cpu:)

Nice :) My recent purcahse of an OCZ SSD made FSX much better but the man has to pay his council tax so don't wanna break his back (forget council tax and buy SSD). Council will understand the need to upgrade im sure :D

this all sound very exciting, especially with sandybridge providing onboard graphics allowing me to wait for the card I want to drop in price.

You've all been a great inspiration, my woman will hate you all!

Women don't dig the flying thing so don't worry about it :D Just keep some money left over for a night out and a nice meal... All will be forgiven ;)

I love FSX and want to know my best upgrade path.
I run it on 3 monitors but with the addons of South-West Scenery, London and Traffic X, things will stutter.

I've got a 1.1 Mac Pro dual boot running Windows 7 64bit.
Xeon 5130
6 GB Memory
1GB ATI 5770

Will it be another 5770 in Crossfire, SSD, New GFX Card? Please advise...

Just as k her what she would rather have,
A nice, big engagement ring, or a rig that will play a flight sim on your HDTV?

actually......

Correction:-

"Just ask her what she would rather have,

A nice, big engagement ring, or a trip to Hawaii...By FSX airlines, On the rig downstairs that is connected to our tv?"
