Fifa 11 trick skills

Hey, I'm looking for ways to improve my game play. The friend I play fifa against commits his defence quite a bit but he gets away with it because he is exceptionally good at reading the path of the ball/player. I already exploit this to some extent however by dribberling around him quite easily with the likes of ronaldo etc. But I can't do this further into the box. However I want to take this to the next level and use trick skills. So my questions are:

1)Do you use trick skills?
-1a) If you don't use trick skills is this because you can't do them or because they arn't worth doing?

If you did use them:
2) How effective how you found them?
3) How did you learn them?

really the main problem is that I am struggling to learn to use them, they are quite fiddly to do in the heat of a game and learning them in the arena does not correspond to the real game as the stick directions are different.

I want to be able to dribble down the wing and cut in once i'm on the edge of the box. Currently doing this is very hit and miss vs him as he usually defends well against it so I'm forced to cross instead.

Pffft!

I need to sell my greasy... Umm, I need to sell my Spaniards before I can really afford any more players. Got a bid in for Neuer and I've bought Raul, Rakitic, Metzelder, Podolski and Huntelaar so far. I might get Diego later as for his price he has crazy stats. <3 !!

Diego is awesome, loved him when I got Wolfsburg in the OCUK Fifa 11 League :D

Agreed - like any decent footballer that can do tricks, you very rarely see them in a proper game of football...

Learn his style, mix up your play/attacks and dont force chances...

Use skill dribbling and fake shot/pass judiciously and youll be fine

The only tricks I use are:

The double tap in the direction you're moving to flick the ball up and forward at waist hight which is a good one to use down the line when a player is coming at you from an angle or even outside the box to just blast a volley towards goal.

The heel chops where you flick the stick diagonally backwards to your direction of movement to cut the ball inside/outside an oncoming defender which opens up space for you as you take them out of the game.

Both of these tricks are fast completed skills that are usually over quickly enough for you to get a shot away or choose your next direction of run/pass before the next defender is on you.

I use skills in game, but only a select few work more often than not.

The best tricks to use to cut in from a wing position are the fake shot, which i've only recently got the hang of and find it ludicrously easy to dribble into the box with, and the McGeady spin. That one requires more practise and is more about timing. To do it just flick the stick the way your travelling then flick 90 degrees in either direction, depending on which way you want to go.

The only other trick I use is the quick flick of forward and back, I think it's called the heel clicker. That one is best used on the left side when you've fed a striker/winger in behind a wing back with a CB closing you down, if u drop it at the right time, just as they get near, you can totally take them out the game. For extra effect be running on a slight diagonal up.

They're pointless. If you want to win, pass.

Oh I agree with both of you that passing is by far the most important thing but I've already got that down pretty well. Now our games are requiring that something special and while my passing can always improve I might as well try learn some other parts of the game while improving my passing further.

Cheers, why does the flick up work against a defender coming at you? Surely they would just chest it away from you? The hell chop is one im trying to learn to use but its proving hard to manage when coming in at angles to the box.

Yeah I'm trying to get the hang of the fake shot, it does look very effective as it slows you down and the other person alwaysd thinks you're going to cut in so they run the wrong way.

How does the heel clicker work exactly? From what I can tell it usualy results in my running straight into the defender or just has little effect that a forward tap of the stick would have achieved anyway.

i think all the skills are worth perservering with even if you find it difficult to do in game. It took me to the end of 10 to do them in game at an acceptable level in f10

I can do one or two in game fairly regularly - its combining them with using skilled dribbling and sprint to get past players.

ones i use the most

roulette twirl L2 + R stick half circle forward
sort of a mini swagger move L2 + r stick forward and up or down diagonal
quick pass forward to sprint round opp

i should use the fake shot but i never remember which foot has the ball so difficult to do right

I use the chop to cut inside to take a shot on the edge of the box, the easiest way to do it is to hold L and holding left or right and pressing the shot button, its much easier that way I feel. Fake shot is also very useful to cut inside from the wing.

Ah it's okay, I haven't got a full team, no idea which team/league I want to base my squad on. I've only got Pato and Ronaldinho and Arsene Wenger at the moment, all with the 4-3-2-1 formation. Ronaldinho is LF and Pato RF, I was thinking of another Brazilian ST for the middle and then padding the rest of the squad out with Prem players. Chemistry might take a slight hit with the front three not playing in the same league as the rest of the squad but I have no idea what else to do. Toyed with the idea of a Brazil International team but they don't seem to have great quality in the centre of the pitch, apart from Kaka who is out of my price range.

Fake shot is also the only one I use on a regular basis, and that is purely because it allows you to turn very quickly while keeping the ball under close control, I don't find any of the others useful, there's never been a situation where I think I simply have to do a trick to get past a player, if there's nobody next to me or ahead of me to pass to I just pass it backwards. You can't just go online doing tricks because decent players will punish you every time you lose the ball.

It's all about timing and like I said it's easier if they are coming at you from a slight angle. I tend to initiate the trick when the defender is lunging in for the tackle.

Keep at it and with practice you should be able to get a few skills down to a tee for your arsenal. Don't overuse them though as there is no substitute for good old fashioned gameplay.
