All young drivers post your insurance prices here !!!

21 i paid £2580 on an mgzr 1.4
22 i'm now paying £740 on same car.
first was the cheapest i could get at the time with co-op. now aviva are the cheapest by over £600 compared to anyone else.

Im 23 4ncb and 5 yrs drivin exp. I have a Fez ST. Renewal and cheapest price £1490 with a £500 excess. Thats FC as well.

Mine is a 1.5L toyota yaris Tsport and im paying £2800 :O
im 19

Why do people do this? What is so great about a YARIS that its worth paying £2800 a year to insure it? Why not just drive something crud until insurance is more reasonable? What a waste of money. Imagine how much further that money would go if you kept it for when you can insure something that isn't naff.

When I was 21 I paid £1100 a year on a new Seat Ibiza 1.2
When I was 22 I paid £1100 a year on a modified 220hp MG TF
Now I'm 25 I pay £500 a year on a slightly modified 2005 MG ZS - thats on one of those multi-car policies with Admiral, worked out pretty well for those that have more than one car in the house.

19 £1200 modified Mondeo 2.0 16v Ghia X (4 years old)
22 £980 BMW 530i Sport (4 years old)
26 £406 BMW 530i Sport (8 years old)

17 £1500 for a '05 Ford Fiesta 1.4.
20 £550 for it with 2years NCB (As my first year didn't count)
21 £15 when I changed cars half way through the policy to a '10 Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec

I had an Astra GTE 16v with throttle bodies @ 20 which cost £600.

I now pay £265 for both My Vectra and C-max.. :D I,m 32 though with 15 years ncb.

My main cars

17: 205 XS (modified) - £900 (come back quinn!!! :()
17: E30 316I - £1200
17/18: 205 GTI GTI6 (Modified) - £Mega
18: Toyota Soarer TT - £2300
19: Toyota Soarer TT - I'm on the phone now, but it looks like it'll be around £1400 :-\

Edit: Yep, £1400. Another year of paying 4 figures for insurance BUT I managed to wipe nearly a grand off of what the 'new customer' price was, so in a way I think I have won :).

Because usually driving 'something crud' doesn't actually make enough of a dent in the insurance prices of a young driver. Well, not enough to make up the difference between getting a car that you actually want rather than one your "Have to" have because of insurance reasons.

I had it with my first year of insuring the Soarer. Spend a lot of money on a car that I've wanted, or pay slightly (we're talking a couple of hundred quid here) less on insuring something that I have no interest in. I might as well do It will I am young and can afford it (Just :)).

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't do it again. It was a colossal amount of money to spend and honestly it got to the point where looking at my bank statement and seeing that a massive chuck of my wages had disappeared without fail started to make me feel a little bit sick, but I can understand why people do it.

I will never, ever, ever beleive you when you say the Soarer ended up being not appreciably more expensive to insure than something far more modest. You say this all the time, I can only conclude you are either just pretending or you sucked at searching for insurance quotes (Perhaps because psychologically it was in your interests to not find a much cheaper quote for a more conventional car).

And lets face it, a Yaris hasn't exactly elevated you above the typical Fiesta has it?

Shouldn't people be putting their excess as well? Otherwise this whole excercise is largely irrelevant. I'm sure someone on here has a ridiculous excess (like 1k or something)

In fact, because of the huge amount of variables, comparing just what you pay us pointless.

I'm not saying that more modest cars were not appreciably cheaper than the Soarer to insure, but we were talking about maybe £1,800 for a 2.0 Mondeo (and £1600 for the likes of the 1.25 Fiesta which simply was not an option) compared to £2,300 for a 'nicer' (as far as my tastes go) car I actually wanted to own and drive. I was willing to pay that extra £500. I think that it is a lot of money, but it was not enough to justify having a car that I really did not want.

If I was saving £800+ a year and knew that the money would massively help me get behind the wheel of some tasty metal at 21 then I would have probably have gone with something modest, but my point is that it very rarely considerably cheaper to just buy something 'crud'.

But it is elevated enough to make him feel like it is worth it.
