Can you ever go back from RWD?

No risk? You can still get FWD cars sideways you know......

Which is fun too...

... There are no RWD cars that appeal to me other than a 3series BMW, but that wouldnt be much faster than what ive got now... (and im being serious excluding the M3 and top end 3series).

What other RWD cars are there? MX5 and S2000 out the window cos they only got 2 seats, and no roof.

There are numerous BMW 3 Series which are so much faster than what you've got now you wouldnt even see which way it went! Take an E92 330i - 0-60 in 5.9 seconds.

i think i'd find going back to something less powerful a bigger loss than RWD -> FWD

when i'm not playing, which, lets face it is most of the time, it's nice to be able to punt along on no throttle at plenty of speed, and to pass stuff with just a flex of the ankle.

Yes, I've done it...but when pushing on, a RWD car is more likely to kick the back end out than a FWD car is, especially if you boot it mid corner. ;)

Much more meant less risk rather than none, but its much less likely to happen with FWD than it is with RWD.

I've not personally experienced track driving, hence saying 'in theory' after what I said as from what others have said, it's 'easier' to drive a FWD car fast round a track than it is a RWD car, if you're trying to set quick laps. But as I say, I can't give personal experience so doesn't hold much weight. :p

ah yes, the 330i. ive kept up with 325s and 328s EASY. 330 is only 1 second faster to 60 than what ive got so it isn't going to disappear so i don't know what way it went.....

Your car does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds?

Since when was it a Clio 182 rival?

The ST does 0-100 in 21 seconds! An E92 330i does it in under 15 seconds!

Fiesta ST is sub 7 seconds to 60? I didn't think they were that quick? I thought they were closer to 8 seconds? (ie. almost the same as mine, just a touch quicker because they weigh a bit less I think, which would make sense, both ~150bhp) I can't see that the Fiesta manages 0-60 almost 1.5 seconds faster than the Golf does with the same power.

No offence, but after 60mph that gap only widens.

Too say you keep up with 325i / 328i's easiy you either mean old ones or ones where the owner is not trying?

Having owned a very old 525i SE with nearly 250,000 miles on the clock once it was moving it was no slouch and the newer ones are certainly a fair bit faster.

Infact I think your dreaming, both drivers been equal, here is your car:-
http://www.torquestats.com/index.php?car_id=164

0-100mph takes 21.8s or 60-100mph takes 13.9s, sorry but thats slow.

An old 328i does 0-100mph in 18.4s and 60-100mph takes 11.2s. Into three figures the 328i driven flat out will be a couple of bus lengths down the road.

Now compare that to what Fox is talking about a 330i M Sport from 2005, it really will make you look like your going backwards:-
0-60mph in 5.9s (1.5s faster)
0-100mph in 15s (7s faster)
60-100mph in 8.7s (over 5s faster)

The 330i driven flat out will be gone.

In the 1/4 mile a 330i is 2s faster and is crossing the line at 97mph compared to your 88mph. Its night and day faster!

Mountune 185 ST does it in 7seconds. But anyway, im not talking about traffic light GP's, or cruising down motorways.

.

note i didn't say it wouldn't BEAT me... but it wouldn't be so much faster that i would HAVE to get one.

it should be for double-treble the price of my car....? :)

and also isn't that the top end 3 series i excluded from the argument?

What about the old 328i then, it some 4s quicker too 100mph, your only keeping up with one if the guy driving it has no talent or is not actually trying to race you. You have a nippy hot hatch which will feel sprintly, but once moving a 6 cyclinder 328i is going to drive away from you even though its a lot heavier.

I'd take your car on a twisty B road but again it should win its competing an 7-8yr older car. I am not clued up on old BMW's if they did M sport versions back then or if you had to get an M3 varient for sports suspension, but lets not talk M3's as you'd have no chance in hope against even an old one.

But a new 3 series from 2005 onwards I'd also want in the twisties. :)

No, the top end 3 Series is the M3. The top end non-M3 3 Series is the 335i. This would also make your Ford Fiesta look like a slow hatchback, as it does 0-100 in an even more bonkers 12-13 seconds.
