I currently have an IP4 but in 3 weeks time im due an upgrade
i dont know what to do. Keep the IP4, or get a desire HD and flog the IP4

ive only ever had 1 android and that was the G1 and to be honest i wasnt at all impressed.

The IP4 on the other hand is amazing and has everything i ever need.
How much better or worse is the desire HD ?

Samsung Galaxy S 2 (may well be out in 3 weeks), beats the iPhone 4 and Desire HD. I wouldn't personally (having done so :p) change the iPhone 4 for a DHD.

Android is different now, far better than it used to be.

Wow, i thought the iPhone only came out last July/August, what kind of contract did you have that allows you to upgrade after only 6 months?!

I prefer the DHD, so I bought one. Wouldn't have done so if I'd already had an iPhone though I don't think. It's not better enough to bother with the hassle of switching. Though there are some more open possibilities to Android that I don't think I could give up now!

If you like the IP4 and don't have an itch then just get the most expensive phone free on your contract and sell it. Unless of course you try out the DHD in the shops before hand and like it more.

or just get a decent deal on a sim only contract, for example - three will give you 100mins, 3000 texts and 1gb data for £10 on a one month rolling contract

or, wait for apple refresh and look at iPhone 5? then the iPhone 4 might decrease in price a little bit, and then buy that if needs be, or wait for HTC to reveal some info on a new handset they might be releasing? theres more phones in the market other than these, like Motorola Atrix, that looks superb, and the Galaxy S-II :)

Would probably still work out cheaper if he doesn't mind an 18 month contract to get a cheap contract and sell the phone.

I had an iphone 4 and bought a Desire HD... sold it a week later. It's a good phone, but for me the hardware wasn't up to scratch; it felt rather cheap in comparison.

I've switched from iPhone to Desire HD and so far the switch is a good one, you can do so much more on android, it really comes down to what you expect and want from your phone.

but what happens in ~6months when a phone comes out that is worth upgrading to? Be stuck buying it sim free, or breaking the contract/running two contracts.. could cause issue if wanting to transfer the number over etc.

Keep the IP4 - sell it in June when at maximum profit as the IP5 will be out soon after, and there will be another influx of new gen Android kit due soon after that if the IP5 doesn't take your fancy.

At the end of the day a SIM only contract is way more beneficial to you if you already forked out for the IP4 in the first place. Unless you need a significant amount of minutes (or unlimited data) there is no way getting an 18/24 month contract can be better for you with the amount you will get from the handset you sell, £300-350 and a contract value of £35pm for 18 months is £630 and 24 months would be £840.

Calculate how much you'd spend on calls in that time using SIM only, £10-15 pm? You would have only spent £180 - 270, and SIM only you can go on a 30 day or a 12 month so you can get the best value more often than not. :)
