Security forces opened fire Friday on Bahraini protesters for a second straight day, wounding at least 50 people as thousands defied the government and marched toward Pearl Square in an uprising that sought to break the political grip of the Gulf nation's leaders.

Once again, Bahrain authorities showed no hesitation in using force against demonstrators who ramped up demands to bring down the whole ruling monarchy.

U.S. President Barack Obama condemned the use of violence against the protesters in Bahrain, as well as in Libya and Yemen, where heavy crackdowns by old-guard regimes were reported. A Libyan doctor said 35 protesters were killed in the eastern city of Benghazi during a confrontation with security forces, while four people were killed and 48 were wounded during protests called as part of a "Friday of Rage" in Yemen.

50 People injured and they need help with medical care? Seriously? Why on earth does a "breaking news" video have mysterious music added over it?

Democracies don't work in middle eastern countries because of the cast system and medieval views people still have. Good luck to them trying to get a democracy, but I can only see it leaving the country in ruins as they will never decide on anything without resorting to violence. Countries like that need one ruler who tells the people what to do as they will never agree with each other. Look at Iraq and how messed up that place is with a "democracy".

Er - where do you think British democracy came from? Read up on the Peterloo Massacre for a start. Making a democracy in any country is hard work, and people usually die to achieve it. And just make sure that the democracy you bring in isn't left-wing or the Americans will find a way to overthrow it anyway.

Reports coming from Libya suggest snipers had fired on mourners who were attending the funeral of some protesters. However, I can't see Gaddafi or the Bahrain rulers falling because unlike Egypt they have a loyal military backing them. Unfortunately, this will lead to continued bloodshed.

The kingdom of Egypt was a constitutional monarchy with a democratic government.

The US and others didn't like the fact that it was allied with Britain and was seen as a British satrapy, thus the military coup and the Egyptians lost their democratic rights with it.

It was probably corrupt, but I don't know enough to comment on that, someone else might.
