In reality the vast majority of Halal meat is stunned prior to slaughter....there is a big long thread on it where the RSPCA research states as much.

Should legislation be adjusted to account for the 10% that is not (which is actually lower than the amount of commercially slaughtered meat that doesn't meet legislation btw), I would say it is about time.
Kosher butchers however have yet to use the same method of prestunning that Halal advocate, I do not know why.

He wasn't much cop as a comic, so took to insulting people instead. Another atheist who ascribes minority viewpoints to entire sections of society simply to garner a reaction.

Having said that, some of the things he has said about radical Islam and Christianity are true, however he cannot seem to get past his own childhood driven bias overall.

I agree with some of what he says, but if you're going to be that aggressive and such, you have to offset it with similar amounts of charm, something he is unable to do. Check out Hitch for an example of somebody that does it successfully.

This whole debate, I've solved it a while ago using logic..

1) God exists
2) God doesn't exist

In both 1 & 2, i still don't care, i still don't change anything i do.

Sorry if I'm not an expert as I still have a lot to learn about my own religion.

What I can say though is that I witnessed an animal being sacrificed on Eid when I was in Pakistan and by the time the knife was used to cut the veins/nerves the animal was dead pretty much instantly.

By all means it's not the most pleasant thing to view but I'm pretty certain the animal didn't suffer as much as they do in the slaughter houses.

Quick question though guys

Isn't killing an animal (halal or non-halal) just a way of "preparing" meat and a matter of preference?

I believe and that is enough for me. I don't need to prove anything to myself or others. Each to thier own i say.
 
a person without faith is men lost in the wilderness. i'm not atheist or religious but i believe there is something else out there. i'll refrain from calling it by name cuz it doesn't really matter.

So we shouldn't pay any attention to the opinions of people that were abused as a child? Any other opinions you wish to rule out as invalid?

And you've totally glossed over the actual comments he's made, choosing instead to question his career or lack of. Pretend you've never heard of him and try again from a blank page. I had never even heard of him before so did not find myself being influenced by any other aspects of his life, and even if I had, a lot of what he said rings true with me. Not all opinions and viewpoints automatically deserve 'respect'.

It just sounds like you've sidestepped what he's brought up, as you are uncomfortable with how accurate his commentary was.

Considering the bias someone may have for their views is not ignoring what he said, it is considering why he is so vitriolic and why he holds those views.

I considered what he said honestly, it is a shame you cannot do the same with mine.


And, no not all viewpoints and opinions deserve respect.....including his own.

You should thank me for not including the extra quote Castle, because it still pointlessly refers to his childhood. Please could you answer my question this time: aside from child abuse victims, who else's opinion do you wish to discount summarily based on their unfortunate circumstances?
 
The one fact of this thread is that the majority of people in it are wrong!!
There's either one true faith, or atheists are correct, but whichever it is most of us are doing the wrong thing!!
