GTX 480 & Overclocking

- Hello, I was wondering what could be good overclocking settings for GTX 480, altought if I will overclock it, fan will be even lauder I guess?

I baught GTX 480 from Overclockers UK and my current settings are:

Core Voltage (mV) - 1063
Core Clock (MHz) - 700
Shader Clock (MHz) - 1401
Memory Clock (MHz) - 1848
Fan Speed (%) - it's auto, but usually at about 65% and is mostly at 85 C when playing games, wich is pretty high for me... any solution how to make it cool better with FAN cooling not aqua...

* recently I had 98 C and I was scared to burn my card, so i set max voltage and max fan speed so it cools it all the time...

turned down my voltage to original, but keeping my fan speed at 100% to cool it down...

Hello some of the peeps in here use msi afterburner.Good thing about is you can adjust the voltage with it.

Scubes...

Welcome to the forum:)

Most people (myself included) use Afterburner as mentioned.
Have a search over in the Graphics Cards section for more info.

this is so weird, why NVidia released such a card what heats so much, I rencely got 97 C when was in WoW loading screen, im shock't, if it will go over 100 it's gona burn itself or something?

I just had 98 C also, damn, what is actually temperature when card will stop working (burns down) ? FFS NVIDIA!

P.S. sorry for doublepost.

You set max voltage to keep it cool? I'm quite sure it'll have the opposite effect!

What case are you using?

I'm using my original HP case, it's kinda small, I even had to take out my CD-Driver cable to let GTX 480 get in otherwise cable was pushing it up and didnt get into position where it should...

I actually could take sides off from my case for better ventilation, buuuuuut then my videocard also wouldnt hold in place since I hanv't put 1 bolt in, becouse previously I used GT 220 and it fit perfectly but with this MOTHERSHIPWTF I can't even get bolt in to hold it in place there, that's why I'm using one side to keep it fixed in place and not to get loose it...

BTW what can happend if I turn voltage up, what problem what could it couse?

It sounds like you might be wise to invest in a new case, or at least add a fan between your hard drives and the 480 to feed it some fresh air.

The more power your card uses, the hotter it will run, and you're supplying more voltage, which is a factor in determining that level of power.

Ultimately if you put too much voltage through a chip you could shorten its life, or kill it straight out.

aight now im using 100% fan speed with everything else to original (reseted), but heat is impossible when you enter game, when idling its about 57-60 C, my previous card was really good and was at about 35 C at idling and at 55-60 when gaming lol :D

Can you recommend me some good case and maybe motherboard, since my current is kinda small and that's why it fits in my small case too, although I need new case with motherboard, could you recommend me one from some UK seller if possible and with like 4 slots of RAM?

Have a look in the case section of overclockers.
Difficult to suggest anything without a budget.

As for motherboard, what processor do you have and what are the rest of your system specs?

Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.5GHz
4 GB Ram DDR-2
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard (i think it's) Packard Bell MCP73PVT-PM with some onboard videocards? Chipset GeForce 7100 and Southbridge nForce 630i
Bios: AMI P01-A3 07/21/2009

Noticed weird thing throught CPUID CPU-Z, it shows that my CPU Cores sometimes jumping from 2.5 Core speed to 1999.8 MHz, how is that possible!?

Intel speed step down clocks the cpu speed when the system is idle & under light loads..

took off one of sides and now heat dropped in WoW (ULTRA everything 1920x1080) from 98 C to 75 and when idle from 65 to 45-55... also reinstalled drivers from 266.58_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql to 260.99_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_w since there was problem with artifacts on ULTRA when runned on 266...

is it possible somehow turn off onboard videocard so it doesnt leech my RAM, cuz now it shows that I have 3.327mb (3.3gb) videocard RAM O.o evetho I dont need that badly that integrated...

if i were u id get a coolermaster hafx it has exellent cooling my 2 470.s idle about 29 c ...

get a zalman vf3000 cooler for ur 480,its out of stock at the moment,i put one in my equally hot gtx470 and has gone from 96c down to 63 when gaming overclocked, idles at 30c, superb

That not a good idea

As i think the op has a very small m-atx case with bad air flow and one them coolers would just dump even more heat into his tiny case...

is there any other maybe case with good air flow and maybe someone could recommend me good motherboard with 4 RAM slots and maybe 2 GPU slots?
