I need to get across 2 platforms (from 3, to 7) in 3 minutes to catch a connection, would this be possible with a suitcase or should I catch the next train (1 hour later)?

far too many variables with our rail network, if you have to pre-book dont get one that close! Only takes one red light on the the 1st train for you to be completely shafted

yeah, I wouldn't cut it that fine if they were adjoining platforms.
Considering they can close the doors upto 1 min early, it would only take someone holding you up to make you miss it even if your train was on time!
If it's not prebooked though I'd make a run for it on the off chance

you mean birmingham new st?
you'll have to shift some to get up the steps, and down the concourse to plat 7. if it's fairly quiet, you'll be ok. Rush hour...forget it.

Doubt you could do it tbh the queues are such that if you was on time you would not make it up to the main concourse let along down to the other platform to catch the train.

I would'nt risk it to be honest, it might be possible but so many things can go wrong.

You only have to go up the Stairlift off your platform to get to the entrance of all the platforms but still its a very busy station and very big,

Good luck :D

If you've not been to new street before then you've made the right choice. Easiest thing to do when arriving is head upstairs so you can see the signs for all the platforms.

Takes about 1 min to get from 3 to 7, but, if its busy 3-4 mins

and they charge you to have a wee.
and trains into brum are NEVER on time
