hope this is not in wrong section.

My step brother had his license removed. He is only 18 and is knew to driving, still within his first 2 years probation. Well his insurance expired on the 10th october and was not renewed until the 12th october because my dad/step mom forgot about it. on the 11th of october he was pulled over. They fined him £150 six points on his license. So he lost his license. He now has to re take his license probably cost him about £400-500 in total just because he did not have insurance. If that is not a big money making scheme i don't know what is. The car is only old, it is worth about £200-300 if that, he is forced to spend £75 a month on car insurance. Surely the government/dvla and the insurance companies work together to make the laws to rip everyone off and create these sorts of money making exercises.

why is it not some ones choice to get insurance or not, how can the government force everyone to get insurance.

This one senator in the states has produced a bill that wants to end drivers licenses. He says there is absolutely no need for a drivers licenses and i agree. Drivers licenses is just another money making scheme that has been taken way too far in the UK.

possible troll thread?

If not, what happens if your brother had crashed his 200 quid car into that lovely new murcielago worth over £200k? who's paying for the damage he's caused, as I imagine if he's driving around in an uninsured £200 car he doesnt have 200k knockin around, plus other costs (imagine loss of earnings for somebody who can afford that lambo, or if you were really unlucky and managed to disable him.....)

That's why we have insurance. Covering your OWN car is entirely optional with the likes of third party only insurance, but you can't get away with driving around with no responsbility at all.

Insurance is mandatory in plenty of other places in Europe, and in Australia too.

Deal with it.

And driver licenses are there to stop idiots who can't drive from being allowed out on the road without proper training and / or supervision.

I don't think anywhere allows people to drive without a license, and the US most certainly isn't about to start, despite what some deluded senator might wish for.
