Well last few weeks ps3 locking/crashing. Last night locked up on Loading screen for ME2 and corrupted my save data :(

But i had a backup but was further behind by fair few hours but saved me re-doing 16hours at least! Model is 40GB with 250WD Cavier in it, Now when i tried to turn it back on it didnt at first just blinked.

So was thinking let people have estimates if it lives say past a week you can have a cyber cookie :P

Well last few weeks ps3 locking/crashing. Last night locked up on Loading screen for ME2 and corrupted my save data :(

The same thing happened to me, only it was at the end of a heavy mech fight on insanity and it also bricked my game save. ME2 was a good game, but my god was it buggy as hell. The game locked up on me a lot and some times I got stuck in a single brick. I even had my character get stuck facing the wrong way for an hour.

If it is happening with games more and more frequently then it would be a good idea to take a full backup of the system before it snuffs it. If you're only getting lock ups in a couple of games, you can attribute it to **** poor coding.

Trade it in now!

ps3ud0

This. Buy a slim, connect it to your 40gb phat and transfer all your data. If you have lots of media / game installs then delete these to save some time before transferring. Your protected saves will transfer over too. Then trade it in at your local game shop (dont think i can mention names)

All the phats are biting the dust now, esp the 40GB ones. To save yourself a ball ache do the above! Its more than likely to YLOD very soon.

My PS3 has YLOD'd twice now. I always keep backups. I don't want a Slim though! I much prefer my fattie that can play PS2 games, and has those really useful card slots on the front.

The trouble is Sony charges ~£130 to "repair" an old unit. I put repair in quotes because they just give you a different, refurbished, unit. So say so long to your save data, or upgraded HDD.

To be honest I generally use my PC for gaming now so it's not much of a loss.

-My PS3 is a fatty and its still going strong. Couldn't you try changing the tim paste etc. Plenty of you tube vids showing how. Either that or sell.
The tim might have dried up and may be causing issues. Also if you keep your fingers pressed on the power and eject buttons (I think its these two) it goes into tornado mode (or some daft name like that) and the fans spin up really fast and it blows all the dust etc out of it.
Read up on this before you do it as I don't know if it resets anything (pretty sure it doesn't though, think its just to clean out the dust)

My PS3 Slim crashed several times during ME2, as did my mates 80gb Fat (infact he cant go any further as it crashes at the end of the mission he's on every time) . I think its more the fault of the game rather than the console.

Still, if you fancy a slim then flog it ;)

Had another scare last night loaded ME2 back up save gone =/ exited and re-loaded it and it appeared again :s, Backed up my most recent save anyway :D
