I've just spent the last hour trawling through istockphoto for an icon set suitable for your typical web site in terms of data display and manipulation. The important ones are those that represent add, edit and delete.

There are a few sets that come close, but none half all the icons I'm looking for, and obviously it's important they all follow a common theme.

I'm looking for something clean looking, preferably with a transparent background rather than some kind of button kind of design.

Can anyone recommend anything?

Have you looked at famfamfam's silk set? I guarantee you'll have seen it in use.

Also, Iconfinder is decent for finding the odd icon.

That silk set, whilst not quite as visually striking as I was hoping is brilliant for the sheer amount of icons available.

fam fam fam is easily the best available for day to day use.

For something more stylised, have a search on iconfinder or smashingmag.

Have a look at http://dryicons.com, there are some really decnt free sets available!
