Who has a Corsair H50 or H70? Are they any good?

Hi guys,

Pretty much decided against another air cooler, for a few reasons, and the Corsair H50 & H70s have caught my eye.

Both seem to have good reviews, but what is your experience of them?

Its going in a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000 case, so its not a great case with regard to huge airflow, so I'm thinking that the H70 would be better, its also less than £20 more so for the long term gains its doesn't seem to bad?

But if the H50 is all I'm going to need then should I just buy the H50, especially as OCUK have the H50 on sale atm?

(Its going on a Q6600)

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can give :D

I have the H50 on my Q6600. It's been fantastic. Keeps it stable @3.7GHz. Idle temps are low 40's ºC and the load temps are around 65's ºC. Had it for just over 1 year now. :)

Hi FG,

Are you using just the 1 fan or dual?

And are you blowing air into the case or out?

Thanks :D

Only reason id use one is for the looks. There are better air coolers available but having a Kilogram of Copper/aluminium bolted to the motherboard isn't always an option.

Totally agree. Its also a PITA if you need to get to internal parts but there is a blocks of razer sharp fin edges almost the same size as your mobo in theway.
I end up with wolverine claws marks over my hands when i try.

I have two rear fans on my Antec case. So I've put the rad on the top most of the two fans, then fitted the fan that comes with the kit on the front of the rad. So yeah, dual setup taking air through the rad and out of the back of the case. :)

There are better performing setups, but for the ease of use and the fact it's quiet is what I want. :) I don't want some massive air cooler in there and I've done the whole big external water cooling and it was a faff, especially if I wanted to un-hook the PC and work on it.

Two quick snaps from my phone to make it a bit easier to see:-

I use a H50 with a Push/Pull configuration my processor is an AMD Phenom 1055T OC'ed to 3.9Ghz, Idle temps are at 32c and load goes up to 45 - 49c depending on room temps

Excellent FG, thanks :)

I'm thinking of the H70, mainly due to the fact that I have a CM Cosmos which compared to a lot of gaming cases etc has a lower air flow, so I'd imagine the H70 would give me better temps for that alone?

Does anyone have an AMD system with the H70, do I need to remove the plastic mount that surrounds the CPU area on the mobo and the back plate on the underside of the mobo to fit the H70?

Thanks :)

You have to remove the plastic mount, you can leave the back plate as the H50 will use that (does come with its own backplate, but the stock AMD one is fine).

in my sig you can check rig running h70 with apache blacks fans very good , i also had h 50 , h70 for me made nice improvements in temps.

Pretty much the same here.

High 30's using push pull setup on a Q6600 @ 3.8Ghz

Get one, you know it makes sense.

I've bought the H70 now, just waiting for my RAM to turn up today from OCUK, DPD says its still on the van for delivery, hoping it'll be here today as I can then finish this build :D

What are the best fan options for both coolers i.e. Apache ect?

I went with the golf ball fans for the H70. Sharkoon Silent Eagle 2000. A lot quieter than the stock fans. Though I only ran the stock fans at 1600rpm. I still thought it was loud.

Decided to let the Sharkoon's run full pelt to see for an hour, push/pull exhaust. 24/25c idle and case while light web browsing for an hour. Though I'm in quite a small room that usually hits 27 - 30c at night due to two computers in here.

Probably if I put the PC back in the main room the temperatures would be a lot lower, as I used to get 25 - 27c idle on the stock fans in there at 1600rpm with the resisters.

The noise isn't too bad at full speed but not recommended if you want to listen to soft easy listening music. Though I was getting a terrible draft on my legs as the air was bouncing off the desks. 152.8 CFM? in a mid sized tower. Now running them with q-fan at 1500rpm, 30c while light web browsing but no terrible drafts thankfully. This should be good for the summer.

I should have checked the full load temperatures but the cold draft was annoying me more. Normally I get 34c (intake) - 37/39c (exhaust) at 3.6 to 3.8Ghz with the stock fans after an hour or two of gaming.

Hi

I've got an H70 with 2 x Akasa Vipers using the PWM off the motherboard and works well for me. Idles about 37c with fans running at 40% which is pretty much silent then when it goes above 60c the fans ramp up to 80%. Temps never get above 70c under Prime95 after 8 hours.
