Deadly Premonition;

I'll be honest I had no idea this was coming out until this months Games (TM) magazine. This is what they had to say about this little known budget came that comes out on the 29th of this month;

8/10 "Like A One Eyed Beauty Queen"
The cheaply made offspring of D2 and Killer7, dressed in the unborn fleash of Shenmue.

The game features;

* The town of Greenvale is a living breathing open world.
* Real 24 hour and weather cycles.
* Maintenance of Agent York’s daily appearance has consequences and influences the inhabitants perceptions.
* Travel the landscape with a variety of cars which must be maintained.
* Original horror storytelling and deep characterisation with voice acting and history for every resident.
* Tons of side-quest and mini-games like fishing, darts and collecting trading cards.

GiantBomb did an Endurance Run of this game and it's not too bad.

Yeah from what I can gather its somewhat of a marmite game. Games tm was defending it pretty strongly and I do love Twin Peaks and Shenmue so its going to be a worthwhile gamble. The UK cover art is shockingly bad though compared to the American art :p.

He looks a bit like G-man! The trailer seemed OK but after watching a couple of minutes of gameplay, I don't think that I would enjoy it.

Only just got round to playing this and so far pretty impressed. Gameplay wise its like a crazy mix up of Alan Wake, Silent Hill and Shenmue I think. Theres no getting away from the Twin Peaks setting, some of the characters and levels are EXACTLY the same as on the TV show.. not that that is a bad thing. The only area I don't think is too hot is the world graphics but all in all a solid 8/10 so far. Value for money wise it can't be beaten. What do others think of it now it's out?

i enjoyed it at first, but its clunkiness, soon got on my nerves

Other way round for me the more I play it the I love it. I'm thinking this is one of my favorite games ever... its just like been in a tv show. If anyone is on the fence about this I urge you to give it a go especially if you like (a) Twin Peaks (b) Shemue or (c) Silent Hill :D.

Ordered.

I find that I am going for abscure titles more now than I ever have done in the past.

Maybe it is sign of old age.

Looking forward to this and I have no idea why - I might have wasted my money lol.

Because you value story and gameplay over graphics!! ;)

Don't forget to report back your impressions when you get chance to play it. Once you've done Episode 1 you will be in love!!

Good point. I do. Graphics are good enough nowadays even on the Wii. Not everything has to be shiny shiny like Crysis and Gears of War.

Will report back when I have started playing it. Won't be for a while yet as DA2 and DS2 on the way - but after.............

Managed to locate this cheap last night and am going to give it a whirl. Fingers crossed it's good. I've trusted you guys recommendations :p

Everything about its clunky, especially the driving, i enjoyed its quirkinesss at forst, but it soon wears off.

You could say that about the individual elements of many cult classics i.e Deus Ex, Silent Hill etc. I'm firmly in the "best game of the year" camp. That been said though its easy to see why it's not for everyone. :)

Well I'm quite enjoying it so far.

Quick question to those that have played it, without spoiling it I'd appreciate your answer please.

Should I do the main story (what I'm guessing is the main story) when they set the deadlines? For example I've seen that I need to be at the hospital for 9pm but there are baseball cards to collect on the map. Do you ever get free roam chance so I can do all the sidequests at once, or do they only appear during certain chapters?

What I guess I'm saying is, should I just focus on main story, or try and mix the two?

I would try and mix the two. If you miss a deadline you can simply attend at the right time the next day. Try and do all thr side quests before the end of chapter 3 as you won't get chance again for quite a while.

I just finished it last night and man I was an emotional wreck.. both from the difficulty (on hard) and the storyline. Can't believe how much work they put in for the final acts, it beats nearly all "Triple AAA" games end content hands down.
