Most expensive new car crash ever?

28-year-old who owns the Gemballa tuning company has totalled his Pagani Zonda F Clubsport Roadster after aquaplaning in in Italy.

The Zonda F costs £1.4 million - can't imagine a more valuable new car has ever been smashed up so badly.

At least he's got a couple of Veyrons to keep him happy while he waits for his new Pagani

Gutted for the guy. He'll probably buy another. Looks like a very bad crash.

The crash probably wasn't that bad to be fair, these cars are designed to keep the occupant safe and nothing else - everything else is probably geared up to be as light as possible.

A great performance from the crash cage - Zondas don't have airbags. They must have been held in place pretty well.

Really?! Looks pretty messed up to me.

He has rubbished claims made by local media that he was travelling at 190mph – explaining the lively Zonda that can be difficult to control in certain road conditions.

Is it really that hard to control? I've never driven a super car so wouldn't know but to me (as some one with no experience of this) it looks like either, he was being a tit and was either going too fast or accelerating to harshly for the conditions, or he has no idea how to handle that sort of car.

How would you suggest correcting the slide if your tyres aren't in contact with the road?

If you're aquaplaning then you're just a passenger with no influence on the events that follow.

I should think the owner of a Porsche tuning company probably has quite a lot of experience with powerful cars. I'm not familiar with the Zonda, but i suspect that since it doesn't have airbags, it probably doesn't have traction control either. Such powerful cars like this can get out of hand so quickly and i wouldn't have even thought it be a good idea to drive it in the wet at all.

Possibly yes. Extremely wide tyres with a shallow tread on a relatively lightweight car is a bad combination for aquaplaning.
I imagine it could get away from you very quickly even at 60mph.

Considering that he has a bunch of powerful supercars, he is probably used to the power and speed by now, also looking at the pictures it really doesn't look like he crashed at 62mph, more like 162mph.

Oh well, at least he is out safe.

Jesus! The whole bodywork on it's just crumpled. The only thing that looks fairly intact is the two seats.

One wonders how anyone survived the half century of mass motoring before the widespread implementation of TC.
