Dragon Age 2 - * Official *

I for one enjoyed the demo - if the PC GAMER review is anything to go by, the story gets far better as the game develops (plus, your choices have great impact on the game world - that's what the reviewer said anyway). One thing made it somewhat disappointing for me though - if the game was locked at medium settings, why on earth did my in game cut scenes stagger so much? The game itself ran flawlessly, but when Flemmeth showed up, I missed a good 10 seconds of the scene as parts of it didn't render at all.

Someone asked how Hawke knew about the betrayal at Ostagar - from what I gathered his brother was on the battlefield and witnessed it first hand.

There is also the fact Lothering was one of the first places the Warden went after the betrayal and spent a decent amount of time there before it was flattened by the Darkspawn. You defend your honour(regards the betrayal) a few times in Lothering if I remember right? It's not a stretch to think some people believed the rumours of a few surviving Wardens denying they left the King to die.

About Flemeth looking a bit more spritely. I wasn't sure if this was down to the story-telling dwarf and the exaggeration factor, or that she has undergone one of her well documented rejuvenations? Could it just be a character redesign? Possibly and considering she must be able to pick and choose what she looks like, what's to say she doesn't fancy glamming it up for effect now and then.

So I need a dx10 operating system to get high graphics?

Is the demo on medium settings equivalent to da1 at very high? Or are they the same?

I was wondering whether it was the dwarf jazzing things up a bit, just like he did with your sisters... 'assets' in the super jazzed up version.

I also think her appearance has a lot to do with who she's talking to (or rather, manipulating) at the time. Think about it, Grey Wardens have been there and done that, why bother going for the theatrics? They know who she is and what she's capable of and they've likely seen many other powerful things in their time, there's no point trying to impress them.

These however are runaway villagers, far more naive and susceptible to theatrics and show-boating. It would make sense for her to appear as she did as it's more likely to inspire some sense of awe in them. She is a shape shifter after all, she can appear however she likes to suit the situation. It would also make sense for her to downplay her powers when around the Grey Wardens, as they're far more dangerous than a small party of villagers.

At least, that's how i viewed it.

So Flemeth's back? I take it the story assumes you let her go free in the first game instead of slaying her then?

Nah, in terms of the time-line, this is shortly after you met her in the first game, so you wouldn't have been strong enough to kill her by now. Even if they've assumed you've killed her, Morrigan said she'd likely regenerate, and her differing appearance could be used to argue that she has.

Finally, given that the whole point of DA:O was that only the Grey Wardens knew the truth about what happened at Ostagar, how can Hawke say with 100% certainty (and his family for that matter) that the King was betrayed (I believe he mentions the Teryn during this conversation too)? People only began to doubt Loghains versions of events when you (The Warden) rocked up, contradicting a large part of his story. If anything, Hawke should have thought that the king was betrayed by the Wardens but this cannot be the case as during his conversation with Flemeth he believes them to be dead and expresses no anger at the thought of them still being alive.

It may well be resolved in the final product but there are some gaping holes for me already.

The way i took it, when you confronted Loghain, well when i did, i got him to admit that he betrayed the king etc. etc. and he did come out and say he was doing what was best for ferelden and not the best for some bumbling king, which turned Anora against him!
So id imagine as that was at the landsmeet then word would filter out and about, loghain from hero to traitor and then option for redemption!

Then surely he would be one of the Teryns men as all the rest were slaughtered? Why did you not find more of Lohgains soldiers turning against him until late in the game?

You defend your honour yes, but its generally to no avail. I just don't like how Hawke can say it with such certainty. I get the feeling they use this piece of dialogue to force you to relate to Hawke as he shares the same feelings you had throughout the first game. It feels cheap.

I like this answer, though I still take issue with the "everything needs to be jazzed" approach.

The landsmeet has not yet taken place at the start of DA2. In fact it's probably not even been mentioned.

people should use spoilers

You're in a thread about a sequel to a game. You have to expect it.
