Help, Ive just built a sandy bridge system based on an Asus p67p8 EVO motherboard.
i2600k , g.skill ripjaw 4gb sany bridge compatible from here.

i installed 2 x 1TB samsung spinpoints in Raid 0.

2 days after install i get a red warning on one of the drives on boot up, a day later it failed and just kept clicking.

I have sent the drive back to overclockers and received new drive.

2 hours after re installing everything, this time on the 6gb ports as recommended by this latest recall madness, one of the drives is again showing the red error message on boot up.

I ran hdtune to check for errors and one red block showed up

i have run scandisk which finds erros which it tried to fix, however after rebooting and using hdtune again there is still a red block that is damaged.

The PC is just locking up all the time and its about to fail again.

what the hell do i do now???

can i rma another drive this soon, is it the p67 chipset even though I'm using the 6gbps ports.

I don't know what to do, after 2 weeks I'm still not able to use my PC correctly and this is turning out to be a nightmare.

Tried new cables, everything is seated correctly, psu is more than powerfull enough to run system (750w)

please help i just dont know what to do, im sure the drive is about to fail again

you think i should ask for another rma ???

im having trouble getting on here to post as the pc is just freezing every 5 minutes

ok i posted in the ocuk rma queries section.

i havent had a hard drive fail in 15 years and now two in a week?

If it is showing errors, then you are going to have to unfortunately.

To be fair, I would return it, add another £45 in the mix and get and SSD for your boot drive and use a single F3 for storage.

Might be something else causing it though. I will let some of the others assist.

Dodgy batch maybe? RMA and ask for a WD or seagate and see if it still does it.

Also how did the drives arrive to you? I ordered 2 drives from OCuk which were poorly packaged and as such one was DOA.

So, it’s all there for you.

They were in a cardboard box inside two plastic boxes, wrapped in bubble rap.

just cant believe two drives can fail after 15 years without a single falure.

Edit i have posted in the rma section, i guess il have to seperate the raid and see which drive has failed again :-(

You're sure it's the hard drive and not the SATA ports on the motherboard? Sandy Bridge motherboard SATA has a known problem and Intel have halted shipments for now.

hard drives fail sometimes.

this is a fact of life, two in quick succession is just adhering to the law of averages.

i have posted in your support thread already, i need your order number posted there so i can actually help you.

These things happen.

I've had no failures in many years and then recently found a drive showing some serious errors in the SMART info. Bought a replacement to cover the return time and the new drive failed in two days! Now all replaced and working fine.

well lets hope its third time lucky im sick of setting up windows.

im starting to doubt my own ability to setup a pc, after 15 years building my own.

enough to drive a man mad

Kinda feel your pain on this one! Ok its only one drive but it failed right out of the box and to make matters worse I am a bit concerned as to where ocuk sourced the drives in the first place. I was forced to return it to ocuk not samsung as they would not honour the warranty

I once had an error showing up in the raid array but the drive worked with out any problems

ask overclockers to supply u a drive that was manufactured in 2011 as then u are sure to get the latest controllor chip and firmware

i had a WD green 1.5 TB burn out and got sent a drive that was manufactured months before i had purchesd the drive i soon sent it back and got one that was manufactured much later on

I had a similar problem as well.

Had my original Spinpoint F1 fail on me, so sent it back to Overclockers.

When the replacement arrived (different build date and batch number) it was making such a loud scratching noise that the guy at Overclockers could hear it over the phone!

So after another RMA, the third drive has so far proved reliable (touch wood).

In my experience, drives tend to fail straight away or work for a long time. :)

Are you sure the HD's you received were new? I got one from OCUK not long back which was sold as a "new/oem". Turned out it had been pulled from an Iomega external storage unit and had been used for over 200hrs! Tried to RMA it but Overclockers refused......

That's not a reason for RMAing the drive (RMAs are used for faulty products).

What you should have asked for is a product that matches the discription (new) as per the Sale of Goods act.

But enough of that - if you've got a problem with OCs service the best method of complaining is to do it privately via the web-note or customer service forum. Complaining in a "public" thread rarely gets you anywhere..
