Can i crossfire a 6990 and 2 6870's?

Depends what chips the 6990 uses I think.
For example: The 5970 used the same chip as a 5850, but was just dual GPU, so you could crossfire them and make it tri-fire.

Think that's how it works anyway, not 100%.

You won't be able to. The 6990 will be using Cayman chips, whereas the 6870 uses Barts chips, they have different shader configurations amongst other things, so no you won't be able to.

I'd recommend doing some serious research on anything above 3 gpu's. For the last 10 months I've had no end of problems trying to run a pair of 5970's, easily enough issues to outweigh the benefits, I'll certainly be ditching them once a viable alternative is available.

May be if you keep one and sell the other.

I've certainly considered it, the hassle of finding a buyer and shipping it is about all that's stopped me.
Hassle? The only real "work" you'd have to do is taking it to the post office, but then you could use a courier who'd pick it up at your doorstep and deliver to the buyer's doorstep.
