WTF are the 8 slots used for? a mega folding rig is all i can think.

Extra SATA drives via RAID cards? - Just another thing I thought of, must be more uses though...

Doubt even 1% of buyers of the board would use all slots though.

Quad fire I suppose, if I buy one it'll be for the x-fi sound and the 24phases etc. Bet it costs a bomb though, people who get a refund off there boards when the new revision comes along won't have that much to put towards though.

Would be interesting to see those populated. I'm guessing a dual psu unit would also be required if the intent was to use GPUs that require external power (6/8pin) as with 8 slots and an additional pci power slot above the top slot that would mean a psu would need 9 x 6/8pin pcie power connectors lol.

realistically tho with gpu's you can only use 4 of the lanes due to dual slot graphics cards :(

Only ATI cards will force you to have two slots/card because of the way the connectors are arranged on the back.

But you could stack it full of watercooled 580s since the second slot part on them is just ventilation and can be cut off :)

I want to see a board like this with 8 dual gpu graphics cards each with a single slot water block, just for the ridiculousness of it. Would be a mini supercomputer.

Does it actually have 64 PCIE lanes? I didn't think P67 supported that many...

Also the current draw through the motherboard with 5+ cards installed would be insane.

edit: nvm -
This motherboard is a must-have for the high-end enthusiast. It comes with no less than eight PCI Express 2.0 slots (2x16, 2x8, 4x1)

It's got at least one lucidlogix chip which adds some extra lanes.

Obviously if you filled each slot with graphics cards you wouldn't be using it for gaming..

Or 6990s - shame they'd be rubbish for folding...

So, more importantly - GTX590s - 8 of those...

despite the much better specification of the Marshal, we expect it to retail for about the same as the UD7 and Maximus IV Extreme :D

Just a bit of info on the board. Whereas our competitors are using the dated NF200 chipset for extra lanes, the Marshal uses the Lucid LT22102 to do the same job, an added benefit of this is the ability to use mismatched graphics cards if you wished to do so. As for the power draw? don't worry about that, the 24 phases of the Marshal can provide up to 924W of power

you can find more info here
